Why, Daylight Savings Time, Why

So it's been a while since I've posted here and I figured it was time for an update. With Daylight Savings happened last week, what better update to do then announce my frustration with the "event" and how it needs to change.

Spring forward, fall back. That's the phrase we all know to remember when we're supposed to set our clocks back or forward an hour. Sure, it's always nice to think that we can get an extra hour of sleep when the time changes in the fall but what about now, when we just lost that hour.

This past week I've had two events that added to my hatred of DST. Firstly, work computers suck, but that's a story for another day. The fact that I cannot change any of the settings on my computer annoys me, especially when it doesn't automatically update the time when events such as this occur. So for the next few months, my computer will be an hour behind. Not the biggest problem you say? Yes, but if you forget that the time is actually 2pm rather than 1pm and you're late to class, then it can become problematic. Let's just say that running across campus with books is not a fun thing.

Another thing is that my iPod Touch, which I use to set my alarm for the mornings, decided to change time randomly during the night and revert back to what it was before the hour change last Sunday. Why it did this I don't know but waking up to the wrong time on a school day is frustrating.

We set our clock forward an hour in the fall and set them back an hour in the spring to "conserve" the amount of daylight we get. Why can't we just set our clocks 30 minutes back or forward (depending which period we're currently in) and call it even? Not even all places practice this custom so obviously people have noticed the ridiculousness of it.

Yes, I know this rant is not going to convince anyone to do anything about DST but whatever, that's not its purpose. I know there are others out there who, like me, despise daylight savings time. I just felt like writing something about it, that's all.

Daylight Savings Time

I like Daylight Savings Time. I like it staying daylight until 8 or 9 at night.
