There is also Ruckus. I don't use it but you can download a bunch of music for free. The only thing is that you cannot put it on any portable device. I think you can pay something in order to put it on an mp3 player. You can also listen to what other people on your network have downloaded. It's not bad if you want to just listen to music from your computer.

Yeah... I wasn't too fond of Ruckus and your school has to have an account with them for you to use it anyway.

ruckus is having issues with their to-go service. It wont port to some media players that are both subscription based and have drm protection on it. A big blunder on their part.

other than that... the fact that you can rip the songs makes ruckus ok in my book!

No, any college student can have a free account as long as you have a .edu email address and sign up using it. Both of my colleges are not partners with them, but they still allowed me to signup.

Bit torrent's always gotten me stuff I wanted, even though I'm no longer a student now.

Isn't BitTorrent, oh, I don't know, illegal?

Any intelligent university techie is going to block anyone on their network from accessing any kind of program like that. Otherwise, both the school and the student doing the illegal downloading can get into major legal and financial troubles. Or does nobody pay attention to that sort of news anymore because they all think they're above the law?

BitTorrent itself's just a software program. There are things that you can download using bit torrent that's not illegal. I'm fairly certain a lot of universities out there do no ban the software itself. I went to a tech university and they didn't ban it.
