I have the plot and everything but I need to figure out what causes the people to turn to zombies. I want to make it that the main characters accidentally cause the mutation. Any ideas? (can be funny/stupid ways):rocks:

I'm doing the same, actually I'm writing on 3 different zombie movies. Got one that I want to be a full length film, one a short film, and another that I don't know yet cause I"m working with my friend on it and well we butt heads alot with it so far.
If you are doing it just about anything can turn someone into a zombie. That's the great thing about zombies, anything is go as long as it's done right. Hell you can say that after a major war that had chemical attacks and bombings that after years the twinkies that are supposed to last forever and still be good after that kind of thing have now become radiated. The creme insides are now zombie making cream insides and when the people start eating them poof you got a zombie that goes turning others into zombies.
If the comedy don't do it for you then go the serious route. You can say in the search for a drug to cure cancer a company invents something that does cure cancer and every other illness only side affect, you turn into a flesh eating zombie that nothing hurts even when losing limbs.
Or you can go with the unknown mystery version. Don't tell how they are made. One day everything is normal. Next day zombies are eating the cashier instead of the hot dogs at the gas station.
And if that still don't do it. Then just do the what the hell, have the movie start with the zombies being there for a long time and instead of focousing on how the zombies became zombies do it on how people are trying to cure the cause of the zombies. Put the zombies in prison camps where they have their mouths and hands covered and they just wonder about but the camps are also walled off leaving most of the land open to wild zombies that constently try to get in.
And last, do the off beat thing, zombies of the past. Make the movie back in the past like when Dracula was supposed to be first from and maybe make it that Dracula was really a zombie that wasn't out to drink blood but was really out to just eat brains and the reason why no one can find where he lived out is because the town has become infest with zombies and surrounding towns went in to kill them and burnt the whole place down and then covered everything up so it looked like a empty field and any record of it was also burnt.
Hope that helps. I don't want to give too much away cause I actually might use some of my own ideas.

Kind of dumb but ti just popped into my head. Say theres a planet explosion, one we don't even know about, and a radioactive fragment of it crashes into the moon just days before a lunar eclipse. When the sun hits the planet fragment during the eclipse it shoots off a cosmic ray that hits all of the people watching the eclipse and turns them into zombies.

Its a stretch but whatever lol. I love the genre but obviously I'm crap when it comes to writing it LLL.

Some of the best and classic zombie movies have no explanation for how it begins. My favorite incarnation of a catalyst has been the gas/canister as seen in Return of the Living Dead.

I think the best way to scare people is to throw a little bit of truth in there. For example the seafood sold in supermarkets these days is produced in fisheries in China/Thailand or what have you, and they breed these fish in polluted waters often in the same waters with sewage because there is no control or standards enforced. Mad cow disease, Bird Flu. Only a few years ago everyone was screaming pandemic everywhere.

Could even go with Spinach lol, the opening scene is this 7 yr old at the dinner table and his mom is saying "eat your spinach so you can grow up to be big and strong like Popeye" and then 2-3 minutes later after he finishes his milk he starts foaming at the mouth and spitting up and having seizures in general, then he just falls over, the mom gets hysterical and falls over crying with a phone in hand hysterically trying to dial 911 and the operator is heard saying hello, hello..etc. and then the shot pans over and her kid is standing above her and she looks up and says thank god your allright and tries to hug and the kid lunges forward like he's going to hug her but claws into her stomach and starts ripping out intestines and munching on them. The 911 operator is still going hello while listening to all this going on and send a police car over to investigate, they break down the door leaving a way out for the zombies and of course get eaten and start to spread the contagion.

It would probably lengthen the turning process, I hate movies where those bitten or whatever suddenly turn. It should take a good while so you get more character interaction of what they feel knowing they will become a zombie, etc, etc.

You know I've been thinking about this zombie thing all day so I decided to try and put something together. I'll post in the usual spot when I'm done. So far its pretty good.

I think the cause could be when the sun hits the frag. a mixture of radioactive rays and the sun's rays form a type of skin disorder that disfigures the skin and mutates the body internaly (kinda like skin cancer but with an end of the human race twist) tell me what you think

I started writing my zombie piece and you know it really is a pain in the ass to find a good reason why zombies are made. I want to do a serious zombie story without any cliched reason that just makes the whole story contrived. Then again its going to really be a story about a married couple and their kids and their flight from the zombies and all of the crap thats wrong with society acting as sort of a net that keeps getting in their way. Its going to be more of a sociopolitical piece but about the middle class. The zombies will be the real catalyst for bringing up issues that are wrong with our government and society on a smaller level. Health insurance, homelessness and starvation and band aid fixes, the irony of hypocritic mindsets, etc etc.

How about an anthropologist or archaeologist team is digging up in the arctic and they stumble accross some flash frozen human bodies, slowly the bodies begin to thaw and then someone is bitten by one of the corpses, oddly that corpse does not continue rampaging(too much degredation) but the zombie virus has been spread.

Even better during an autopsy of the frozen remains one of the scientist gets nicked by a bone fragment and that passes along the zombie disease.

Zombies are changing. Used to be they staggered and stumbled along, now they're running at you. Why not change them a little more? A head shot was and still is a sure way to kill them. If you make it so a head shot doesn't do the trick anymore then you'll have something different. As long as some part of the brains there they'll keep going. Sword decapitation? Who knows?

A scarier thought is that the zombie's virus could be "hidden" in normal human beings. Talk about being paranoid. Maybe they carry knives, etc. to get at the goodies inside faster. Something about a thinking, normal looking human dining on a thrashing human is pretty freaking disturbing.

To be honest I always hated those slow moving zombies that simply lived for brains. The newer zombies that are motivated and fast are way better. I think thats the change that makes all the difference. You have to get up close to kill them but their just not going to stand around and allow it.
