this movie looks so good I cant wait to see it.
Zack Braff is a genius in Scrubs and the trailer for Garden State looks better. Ive watched it a lot of times already and great.
That scene of him against a wall with the same design as his shirt, excellent.
here's the IMDB page with the trailer:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0333766/
It opens on some cities on July 30. hopefully is shown here in atlanta :D :)
Garden State Premise/Synopsis:
The film is a romantic comedy about a guy who returns to his hometown for the first time in ten years to attend the funeral of his clinically depressed mother, a journey of self-discovery that reconnects him with the world he left behind and gives him a chance to find love in an unexpected place.

You aren't the only one anxiously awaiting the release of this movie Brian. I saw the trailer for this in the theaters (I think it was when I saw Eternal Sunshine) and it looked great! I'll have to check out the second trailer if it's got more music. The first one had a Frou Frou song in it (www.froufrou.net) and I love Imogen Heap!

There will be a screening for this movie on Tuesday in Atlanta and a Q&A with Zach Braff. Tickets were by invitation only, so I don't think there are any more available. But I just wanted to let everyone know there is an interview with Zach & Natalie Portman on comingsoon.net

I enjoyed the movie last night. I have to say I think the trailer was better though (it sounds funny saying that). I think the reason why the trailer was so good was because the music gave it a different feel. The actual music in the movie didn't seem to play such a pivotal role.
Natalie Portman was excellent in this movie. She's not an actress who makes me want to run out and see anything she's in, but she really brought a lot to this one.
It was great to have the Q&A afterwards with Zach because it explained questions that I didn't even know I wanted answers to. As I thought about the movie after I got home and this morning I thought of lots of questions I would have liked to ask. Zach had a pretty good sense of humour too.

i saw the screening last night at phipps. i LOVED this movie - it is definitely my favorite of the summer and of the year so far and one of my favorites of all time. braff did a great job with it - writing, directing, and starring. natalie portman was fantastic - i didnt really realize what a good actress she was. she deserves some award nom. and judging by braff's performance,he probably wont get an acting nom - he did a great job, it was just that his character was kind of dead inside and emotionless, and while he played it very well, his performance just didnt stand out, but he DEFINITELY deserves a writing/directing award. the movie was refreshing, even how dark it was at times was - i enjoyed the hell out of it and cant wait to see it again and have it in my dvd collection

Have yet to see the film, but am really amped to see it. I got the offer to attend the Q&A/screening back in July, but unfortunately I was out of town. I am planning to see it before Friday.
Anyway, if none of you have read it, Zach Braff is regularly updating a blog on the film's official site and is actively responding to viewer's posts despite his busy schedule. He's now back at work on Scrubs, but most of last month, he was out and about promoting the film.
This has by far been one of his best posts:
Ahh... On the plane. The guy next to me raced to his seat and quickly grabbed the Skymall magazine frantically searching for something as though the pages were programmed to disintegrate upon take-off.
He's now settled on the page that's selling what appears to be a stroller for cats. You put your cat in this cage like contraption on wheels and it enables you to take your cat on strolls and I suppose the occasional errand.
Maybe I'm an idiot, but I don't think his cat is going to like this thing too much. Certainly the cat won't show as much enthusiasm for it as he is, as he is currently jotting down the cat-stroller's info as though it were a code that could enable nuclear fusion or a recipe for Gatorade that would actually quench your thirst instead of making you more thirsty.
That poor cat. He's probably sitting comfortably next to an air conditioner in a Manhattan apartment with no clue that within 4 to 6 weeks he'll be jammed in a cage on wheels, unwillingly going to Crate and Barrel for candles.
Two hour delay on the runway... Yahtzee!!!
And here's another fantastic one:
Some of you have been asking about the rating. Just so you all know, your government doesn't believe a 16 year old should hear the word "f**k" more than twice in a 2 hour period. The second you say "f**k" twice in a movie your film becomes "R". No exceptions. Pretty crazy, huh? You can blow someone's head off, but 2 f**ks makes you unwatchable for someone under 17. Unless they have their parent there to explain it to them. "Mom, I understood the first use of the word f**k, but what's with the second - give me guidance please. I've heard one f**k before, but ever since I heard the second one I've had this insatiable desire to rob a liquor store and refer to all women as "ho's."

watched the movie again tonight and wrote a review finally :)
As many of you, the first time I watched the Teaser (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/garden_state/) for Garden State I fell completely in love with it, and immediately played it again, and again, and again. I've seen it so many times it's unbelievable.
Then the Trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/garden_state/internet_exclusive/) came, with two new awesome songs (more on that later), and this time the characters spoke, and the little they did speak stuck in my head too. Specially Natalie Portman's speech about doing something unique.
Like this movie is.
Zach Braff has created something truly magical, something that lets you shivering, and that put all your feelings in motion. Yes, Garden State is a very special experience.
I had the pleasure of seeing an Advance Screening of the movie back in the first weeks of July, followed by a Q&A with Zach Braff, who not only Directed and Wrote the movie, but he also stars in it, and his performance, as well as his co-stars', is pure. The kind that is making many twenty-somethings say "that's me".
The performances in the movie are all magnificent.
Zach Braff, nothing like his J.D. from Scrubs (http://www.nbc.com/Scrubs/index.html), is this guy, Andrew Largeman (Large) who has been medicated since a very young age (by his father btw), and slowly starts discovering, while coming home to NJ after 9 years for his mother's funeral, what life is.
His face starts numb and lifeless, but when the movie ends, it's filled with life and love.
I make to make a strong emphasis on Natalie Portman's performance here as Sam. After her much hated by everybody portray of Senator (and before that, Queen) Amidala in the Star Wars prequels, she plays a girl here that is full of weird characteristics that makes her totally lovable. She's a delight to watch and makes you smile every time she talks, and cry every time she cries and wish you could be there for her.
Peter Sarsgaard plays Large's friend Mark. Excellent performance by Peter as a very laid back young man that as he says, "is not a hurry". He works a grave digger but he has plans for the future, which will be very bright thanks to one of his hobbies.
Ian Holm is Large's father Gideon. As mentioned before, he's the one that has kept Large medicated all his life (he's his psychiatrist after all) and he's a very cold man. He blames Large for something that happened long ago, and has never been able to deal with it. His face is troubled and filled with anger.
The movie would really feel different without the Soundtrack, handpicked by Zach from his favorites groups like indies The Shins (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005JSHW/qid=1093404917/sr=ka-2/ref=pd_ka_2/103-0158844-9843020)and Frou Frou (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006EXLQ/qid=1093404871/sr=ka-2/ref=pd_ka_2/103-0158844-9843020), and classics like Simon & Garfunkel.
The music really speaks in these scenes and make for a truly amazing Soundtrack (available here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002J58LK/qid=1093404797/sr=ka-1/ref=pd_ka_1/103-0158844-9843020)) that makes you really feel what the characters feeling themselves.
This is really amazing movie, one of my favorites of the year and one that I've watched repeated times already, and plan to watch many more in the future. And I'd love to see Zach receive an Oscar nomination for his story, which is truly what this movie is all about, selfdiscovery, and love.
PS: the movie is currently in around 600 theatres (hopefully more soon) nationwide and you can find the list HERE (http://forum.foxsearchlight.com/viewtopic.php?t=4419). The movie opens in the UK (and then the rest of Europe) on November 26th.

I've seen 'Garden State' twice and it's my favorite movie of the summer. Zach Braff was a real treat at the Landmark screening. He said that he takes notes of conversations and incidents as they happen, and then he worked them into the script. The restaurant sceen happened to him when he was a waiter in LA, the shooting of arrows straight up also happened, though setting them on fire was an embellishment.

hey Pinskyman, whats your favorite song from the soundtrack? mine is Inthe Waiting Like (n3) by Zero 7 and also Fair by Remy Zero :D
btw, my obssession for the movie has allowed me (after several viewings) to make this:
1- Don't Panic - Coldplay: played during Large's medicine cabinet scene and then going to work.
Extra 1 (not in Soundtrack): Three Times a Lady - Lionel Richie: sang in the funeral by Aunt Sylvia. The first notes are played when Large walks in front of the faucets in the aiport's restroom.
2- Caring Is Creepy - The Shins: played when Large discovers his Grandfather's motorcycle.
Extra 2 (not in Soundtrack): ??? - ???: played when Large enters the house of the party.
Extra 3 (not in Soundtrack): ??? - ???: played (in the background) in the scene when they're yelling at Large and Dana comes to kiss him while playing Spin the Bottle.
3- In The Waiting Line - Zero 7: played during the party with Large sitting in the couch and everybody else dancing and having fun at full speed around him.
4- New Slang - The Shins: played in the Large meets Sam in the waiting room and she makes him listen to it as "It's going to change your life" as she says, and then again when Large comes in his motorcycle to meet Sam and she gets him to give her a ride.
Extra 4 (not in Soundtrack): Orange Sky - Alexi Murdock: played in Sam's room (on the record player) and then when Sam and Large are walking out to the pet cemetary to bury Jelly, the hamster.
5- I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You - Colin Hay: played after they bury Jelly, the hamster, and the camera zooms out and we see Large in his motorcycle riding home.
Extra 5 (not in Soudtrack): Adelita - Francisco Tarrega: played in Sam's Dancing Skate performance. It's also the song Mark plays in the guitar.
6- Blue Eyes - Cary Brothers: played when they're drinking in the bar.
7- Fair - Remy Zero: played while Sam is tapdancing in front of the fireplace.
8- One Of These Things First - Nick Drake: played when they first set out on the motorcycle journey to the hotel with Mark.
9- Lebanese Blonde - Thievery Corporation: played when Mark, Large and Sam are walking into the hotel to meet up with Method Man.
10- The Only Living Boy In New York - Simon & Garfunkel: played when they are in the rain in the garbage bags screaming to the abyss.
11- Such Great Heights - Iron and Wine: played shortly when we see Large and Sam in bed.
The same song is performed in the Trailer and Website of the movie but it's a fast paced version by The Postal Service.
12- Let Go - Frou Frou: played during the goodbye scene at the end of the movie and through half the credits.
13- Winding Road - Bonnie Somerville: played during the credits after Let Go ends.
Teaser Song: Let Go by Frou Frou.
Trailer Songs: Such Great Heights by The Postal Service and Love Will Come Through by Travis.

Very impressive Hakeem!! You have more detail than IMDb! IMDb doesn't tell what scene a song is played in. You may want to check out the goof list in IMDb, unless you're working on that too!!

This movie had a tremendous amount of promotion in New zealand, and the trailer made the movie look awesome.
but did anyone after watching the movie walk out feeling so bizzarely depressed? Its an amazing movie, and the soundtrack is soooooooooo goood, but it still just makes me feel so weird...
did anyone else feel it??

I REALLY loved this move, BUt i COMPLETELY agree with you, that the trailer DID look alot better than the movie, i think it was just the song 'let go' by frou frou fee really emotional and rich, but the movie was actually quite subtle and somber.
I walked out feeling a lil depressed for some bizzare reason, like my life was so empty....in contrast to the feeling i got from the trailer.
