I'd been playing around with renting this on blu ray just to see what it was like. It was probably the first anime that I saw on blu ray.

The film is set in Treasure Town, a town corrupted by mob influences and small handfuls of kids who want control of the place as well. A duo known as The Cats; one named Black and the other White are legendery among the complete circle of power grabbers. The two are orphans and they hear that Treasure Town is being spotted for development by a big name gangster. Black, the violent one, makes it his business to send a message to the gangsters that this is his town. White on the other hand is a child minded 11 year old who only dreams of a planned escape to the oceab where he and Black have been planning to build a home to get away from it all.

It was a hrad movie to follow and the end was a complete metaphor for what I'm assuming si the nature of humanities hatred versus the undeniable hope that humanity clings to in its darkest times. Great metaphor that has been used to death but it took away from the film big time. What with all the flying and the extreme action violence that took the realism away from a seemingly realistic story of humanity the end just put the film to bed. It made no sense in the grand scheme of things. Kind of reminded me of Paprika, another film that ends bizzarly.
