If they keep waiting Indiana Jones is going to have an oxygen tank strapped to his back, and fighting of bad guys with his walker. This one was put off for too long. I don't think they should try it now.

They should just have the same writer/director/actor create a movie that is very similiar to Indiana Jones, but not titled under that name...it should stay a Trilogy at this point, as it's great and well-rounded and it's been too long to just shove a 4th movie into it
It could even be the same movie it was gonna be, just different name/premise and will still be just as good, while not being constrained to fitting with the Indy movies

Hi all--I'm new to these boards. :D
Indiana Jones is one of my favorite series, but you're right--Harrison's getting to be too old for the part. It would be like Sean Connery still trying to pull of James Bond, it just doesn't work.
I think Indy should have a son, and then the tradition sort of continues through the family. That way you still get some action from Harrison, but then we can have some new hunk taking over the reigns. Plus, it could bring it closer to a modern day setting--Indy goes hippy in the 60s (haha!!).
That's just an idea though--doesn't mean it's a good one. Anyone else got any ideas???

the series should stay as is. George Lucas, with his rejecting of the most recent Indy 4 script (which both Spielberg and Ford apparently liked), continues to show just how far GONE his mind is. as such, they should never make another one. what the hell is Indy going to hunt for, anyway? i mean, after you find the Holy Grail, anything else will just pale in comparison.

HMMMM...can part of the reason for the delay in shooting this be because Harrison wants to include his now unemployed girlfriend in this movie....yeah we keep hearing about bad scripts, etc...but lets face facts all Harrison Ford is concerned with these days is CALLISTA....George Lucas better be careful ...having INDIANA JONES on a respirator and/or having
ALLY MCBEAL as his love interest will not be interesting by any stretch of the imagination.

It might ended up producing a "Gigli" type hysteria, another big hollywood couple starring in a movie together. It still hold firm on the waiting too much longer thing though. Your right he will be on a respirator, and chase scenes in a wheel chair won't be quite as exciting.

Wow, Shia LeBeouf is sure getting some really good movie roles. He seems to be everywhere these days.
I am looking forward to Indiana Jones 4. I read today that they are trying to get Sean Connery to come back as Indy's father in the movie. I hope he does because his scenes with Harrison Ford in The Last Crusade were so funny.

garcia, your theory is right again!
----------------------------
LOS ANGELES - The next "Indiana Jones" flick will not be another father-son affair. Sean Connery says he will not return to play dad to Harrison Ford's globe-trotting adventurer Indy.
Connery played Indy's father in 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," the third installment of the franchise directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by George Lucas.
"I get asked the question so often, I thought it best to make an announcement," Connery, 76, said in a statement posted Thursday on Lucasfilm's "Indiana Jones" Web site. "I thought long and hard about it, and if anything could have pulled me out of retirement it would have been an `Indiana Jones' film."
"I love working with Steven and George, and it goes without saying that it is an honor to have Harrison as my son," he said. "But in the end, retirement is just too damned much fun."
The fourth "Indiana Jones" film, not yet titled, is again directed by Spielberg and produced by Lucas. Shooting begins the week of Monday, June 18, at an undisclosed U.S. location, and the movie is due out May 22, 2008.
Lucasfilm also announced Thursday that Cate Blanchett, John Hurt and Ray Winstone will be joining the cast, which along with Ford, includes Shia LaBeouf.
Connery — who played the bookish Henry Jones Sr. in "The Last Crusade" and affectionately called his son "Junior" — did have some words for the 64-year-old Ford.
"I do, however, have one bit of advice for Junior: Demand that the critters be digital, the cliffs be low, and for goodness sake keep that whip by your side at all times in case you need to escape from the stunt coordinator!" Connery said. "This is a remarkable cast, and I can only say, `Break a leg, everyone.'"
Lucas and Spielberg have been working with a variety of screenwriters over the years on the long-awaited sequel. The filmmakers have kept the story under wraps, with Lucas, Spielberg and Ford saying in interviews only that it would take place sometime after World War II. The first three movies were set in the mid- to late 1930s.
Among speculation the filmmakers have yet to confirm or deny is whether Karen Allen, Indy's romantic interest in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," might return. There also have been rumors that Kate Capshaw — Spielberg's wife and Indy's love interest in 1984's "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" — might appear in the fourth film.
Lucas and Spielberg are maintaining tight secrecy because details on story and casting are still being worked out and because they want to save some surprises for audiences, said Spielberg spokesman Marvin Levy.
"This is the closest to the vest I've seen. Does Indy wear a vest?" Levy said. "We have more speculation about a number of people than anything I have ever encountered."

if go to the site pandora posted and click on "The Indiana Jones Cast Expands", you can read a thing that Sean Connery said explaining why he won't be in the film.
It also reveals that Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone (awesome in Sexy Beast!), and John Hurt have joined the cast. I bet that Winstone is the bad guy/Indy's rival and John Hurt plays either an old guy helping Indy or the evil mastermind.
Oh, and Sean Connery's little thing reveals another important piece of info: a release date. "I'll see you on May 22, 2008, at the theater!"

yeah, he seems to be set tight on his retirement. I just can't help but think that we will see him again in some small role somewhere down the line. Retirements in Hollywood never seem permanent (even the longstanding "retirement" of Marlon Brando didn't last). Then again, Connery is pretty old so he will not be around forever, though he does seem to be in great shape for his age. I just don't see him letting The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen be his swan song. He is too good for that.

I just don't see CGI fitting in with this kinda movie. Of course Star Wars would have a lot of CGI because it was more sci-fi than anything. Indiana Jones is more realistic so they should be able to pull it off with actual stunts, explosions, etc.

I think the problem with the Star Wars prequels was that they tried to make every little detail CGI (and it all looked fake), rather than really trying to sell the audience on a few amazing scenes.

imdb has a synopsis:
Indiana Jones returns to the big screen. Nineteen years after finding and losing the Holy Grail, Indiana is called by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the organization holding the Ark from "Raiders". The Council and it's counterpart cousin, the Trilateral Commission, are missing an important piece to the Ark. If found, it will restored to its original place in the world. However, this task won't be easy for Indiana because an artifact, "the All Seeing Eye Jewel of 12 Stones," called "Ephod," helps to find it and reveals a prophecy about the coming of Melchizedek from the book of Genesis and Indiana learns more than he bargained for.

Ummm .. what role would Connery have played if he was in the LOR trilogy? Gandalf?
When HF was in town for Firewall, he said he enjoyed doing a lot of the stunts. I dunno, if coreographed well he doesn't have to get hurt (too badly) .. i hope shilo doest get cast as the 'young" indy in like a spin off or something.
But if he is the son-of-indy, Id like to see the back story on that one. Was it the chick from temple of doom or one of indy's grad students?
I think we have a mother. Stephen Spielberg announced that Karen Allen, Marion Ravenwood in the first movie, will be joining the cast.

What's up with the geriatric action heroes...Stallone, Willis, and now Ford. Is this a new trend?
Don't get me wrong...I love the Indiana Jones trilogy. I just hope they can pull this one off after so many years. Of course, I will still go and see it...after all, it is Harrison Ford we are talking about.

Honestly, I'm a little worried about this movie. As most of you have said, Harrison is old. George isn't the same guy he was in the 80's and early 90's. And Steven's just pathetic as of late.
But after seeing Die Hard 4, I think there might be a chance of an old good to great actor reprising the role that got him famous and doing well. As long as Ford gets input on the script and Lucas/Spielberg don't forget it's not about the CGI but the plot, I think the movie will be great. Plus, Shia LaBeouf is a great actor... he could help make the movie even if the plot isn't top notch.

Whoever edited the teaser did a great job. Not just for the fact that it gives just enough of the movie to get you, well teased, but the part that makes it great is the beginning. Showing the clips of the first 3 movies with the titles saying what he did in them while the music played built my excitement up so much that before the parts of the new movie was even shown I was ready to run out the door to the theater.

I am glad H. Ford survived making this movie. I am assuming so since I have not heard any serious medical reports after the filming. I am glad the man had it in him to do it one more time.

And I am curious as to what role Shia will be playing..... he was excellent in DISTURBIA. And he translated his talent well onto TRANSFORMERS. So, I think it is safe to assume that he would do so for this movie as well. Because I think he would not have been casted if Spielberg was not confident in him and his abilities. So, it would likely be a pleasure to see his talent in this movie.
I am, however, disappointed that Sean Connery would not be in it. He is always a joy to see acting.
And Cate Blanchett possess considerable talent and acting-skills - I am glad she is in this movie. I think her character is the antagonist which is such a 180-degree turn from her serene compassionate protagonist role in the Lord Of The Rings movies. I think it will be a lot of fun to see her apply her chops gleefully to this new role.
I can't wait! :)

It will a very enjoyable family movie and a new beginning for a new generation to watch, and I bet they're going to love it. I look forward to taking my kids to see this movie.

I suppose I date myself when I say that I enjoyed all of the Indy movies but it doesn't seem like 20 years ago. If I am as able to get around as Harrison does in these pix when I'm in my mid-sixties, I will be a grateful lady. He has one of those faces that just age well--if they had touched up his hair color, I bet he'd pass for ten years younger. Cannot miss this one; will HAVE to see it.

I 2nd that. Harrison Ford is looking good for his age. I still love watching the Indy movies. I was excited when I first heard there were in talks about making the 4th movie. I have been a Shia Lebouf fan since he started out on "Even Stevens" on Disney.
Another Indy Jones. Can't wait to see if you offer. This has got to be his last one though. Harrison Ford is 65. But he IS the ONLY Indiana Jones. No one else could be Indy Jones.... just like all the others that have played James Bond... Sean Connery is the only one. Adventures of Indiana Jones would not be the same. He should pass his adventures to a son. He could be in the shadows as his father and maybe have a small part. You know, I think the first movie I remember him in is Star Wars. He has made a lot of good drama, suspense, thrillers. I think I have seen almost all of them. I loved him in Regarding Henry. I am sure the new Indy movie will be just as exciting as the others.

Some plot reveals and spoilers.
Some spoilers: Yes, (duh) Shia is Indy's son. Indy is a colonel now, having been a World War II hero. That was a snake Shia was using to save Indy from quicksand. Cate Blanchett actually has psychic powers, (which I bet is true in real life also.)
And here's the crux:
The storyline is basically about an alien corpse from some crash in some town call Roswell, that has magnetic properties that may or may not be the ultimate weapon in the future. The Nazi's are replaced by the Soviets who are obviously bad and want said weapon to do bad things with. The alien corpse prize is replaced with the crystal skull from the corpse (the actual skeleton of aliens is crystaline, and the Crystal Skull is literally an alien's remains) and chases and such ensue as they try to figure out how to 'Return' the skull to the Lost City of Gold and let it's supernatural abilities run rampant.

My expectations for Phantom Menace were off the richter scale.
George Lucas and his "Yippees!!" were partially to blame, but I fell victim to the hype and read everything and anything I could on the movie.
This go around all I have seen is the trailers and done very little spoiler reading on the movie. Hopefully Dr. Jones will have some surprises for me.
My biggest worry is the special effects detract from the true Indy style of movie we all grew up with. Raider's is a great movie the day it came out and still holds up to this day. (well the melting face seen could be a hair better)....
Crack that whip Junior...and give me some screening passes in Raleigh...

I'm hoping that it will be good. I'm also thinking that I'll like it going into it just because of what movie it is. But I've read a few things on the net where they are saying that since the production company is keeping it such hush hush that they fear it might not be that good. I think they just don't want to leak out any of the good stuff.

I enjoyed this movie, but it wasn't anything like the other three movies. It lost its feeling of history. It went too far in my opinion with the aliens. Also I hated Cate Blanchett's character. I can never take her seriously in a role. I was really hoping she would have died in a more graphic way.

I don't really think that the first 3 were about history. They were all based on myth and were all really out there. Ark of the Covenent (melting people, extracting souls), Cup of Christ (drinking from it and being immortal), the magic stones (lighting up, burning, etc), all are unproven myths and all the movies had a number of things happen that are supernatural. The nazis were real, but i don't think that Hitler really signed Sean Connery's notebook ;)
