#6 in the Maisie Dobbs series set in England after WWI-this takes place at the end of 1931. In this tale, Scotland Yard enlists Maisie's help with a case, which involves poison gas and ex-soldiers. Winspear goes to great lengths in describing the horrors of the war and the problems of the men after the war. Also, we encounter Mrs. Beale's fall into depression and the course of action the medical community followed.
