Hey has anyone in here heard of Rachael Yamagata? I saw her perform on Conan last week and was totally impressed, and then I found this review online of her upcoming CD Happenstance. She sounds cool--anyone have more info?

I have her EP, which I like quite a lot. I believe she has a full length coming out early June and a tour starting around the same time.

I hadn't heard of Rachael Yamagata until I saw this post a few weeks ago. I was browsing through the CDs currently available in the Listening Lounge on Real Player when I came across her new CD Happenstance. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I think I'm going to enjoy this CD. The first thing that comes to my mind is Fiona Apple. And since we are going to have to wait forever and a day for Sony to ever release Fiona's newest CD Extraordinary Machine, this will fill the void quite nicely. If you don't have Real Player installed on your system just go to www.real.com and follow the links to download the free player. Once it comes up from the Real Guide click on Music and then Listening Lounge. PJ Harvey's new one is in there right now too.

Thanks for the thumbs up on the album--I was debating getting it but hadn't heard much direct feedback (just reviews), so I held off. I did, however, get to her website (www.rachaelyamagata.com) which is nice for updates and tour dates and such.
What's the story with the Fiona album? Is it finished, just not being released?

Fiona Apple's new album, Extraordinary Machine, has been shelved by Sony, according to a recent Rolling Stone interview ( http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story?id=5937368 )with Jon Brion, her producer. Supposedly, Sony cannot find a single and is unsure how to promote the record. There is no word yet on how long this will take.
