Paris to Be Offered Mother Teresa Role

By Stephen M. Silverman

House of Wax notwithstanding, The Simple Life star Paris Hilton has yet to make a major impression on the big screen. That may soon change.

Film director T. Rajeevnath, who is based in Thiruvananthapuram, India, wants Hilton to play Mother Teresa is a movie biography he is planning about the Nobel laureate who worked among Calcutta's poor with the Missionaries of Charity.

"Her features resemble Mother Teresa," Rajeevnath – whose films include his native country's hits "Moksham," "Janani" and "Thannal" – says of Hilton, according to the French Press Agency.

The filmmaker adds, "A meeting with Paris Hilton is scheduled for the end of April."

Rajeevnath says he stumbled upon this casting idea when he saw a computer-generated image showing what he considers a close facial resemblance between the 25-year-old hotel heiress and the Albanian-born nun, who died in 1997. Pope John Paul beatified Mother Teresa in 2003.

Indian press reports say shooting in West Bengal and several foreign countries is scheduled to begin in early 2007, and casting is expected to be rounded out by Kamal Haasan in the role of a priest and Mithun Chakraborty as Communist leader Jyoti Basu. <!---http://img.timeinc.net/people/i/_site/art_end_box.gif--->

I heard about this a while back. Bollywood isn't afraid of backlash and they don't let anyone dictate their choices.

I completely agree... She is the complete opposite of Mother Teresa... but it will definitely be a challenge for her to prove to the audience she is that character. Mother Teresa is probably rolling in her grave right now to the idea of it.

Everyone keeps talking of this as if it is going to be a straight-forward serious drama but they are failing to look at the people and studios behind it. This is being made in Bollywood. It will likely have dance numbers and off-kilter cheesy dialogue.

True true.... Bollywood is in a class of it's own. Either way it'll be entertaining ... we will see...

Yes, well, it's being made in India. Christianity is like Scientology there (in numbers, not in any other comparison :p ), so I don't think protests will matter as I'm sure it will likely not make it to theatres here.

Paris Hilton as Mother Theresa?! I hope the movie director is not serious, but he just wants free publicity. Paris Hilton is the most annoying person in the showbusiness. I don't consider her as an actress/model as she has no talent. I don't like her not because what she does or how she looks, but she became famous just partying around with money from her family heritage. This is disgrace to the memory of Mother Theresa.

Seriously. I understand that she became famous for her underage work on the Hollywood party scene, gained critical acclaim through her wildly popular television series, "The Simple Life", sold millions of bootlegged copies of her sexcapades, 'lost' her Sidekick and therefore released lots of juicy info to the internet public (including more nudity, who keeps that stuff on their sidekick?). But Mother Teresa? Is she upset that her sister, Nicky, has upstaged her by becoming a Japanese superstar and divorcing after mere months of young marriage?

Judgment Day is coming OR it's the sign of the Apocalypse.

This has to be the end of culture as we know it. I think this director has seen too much of the Simple Life, and actually thought it was real...:(
