Not too many people on the forum may care, but I heard the Echo Lounge closed during the middle of a show on Friday that the Legendary Pink Dots were playing. I heard they kicked everyone out after the first band and that they are closed until further notice. I go to the Echo about 2 times a week. What happened and when will they open back, if they did in fact close???

 I sure hope this is just a clever rouse to get things stirred up on the Rumor Mill, but if such a thing is true I will be deeply saddened. The Echo Lounge has hosted such a wide variety of alt and indie music. I wonder what could have happened? I called their number this morning and the regular message was on the machine, nothing about being closed. I guess someone will have to call later tonight and see if they can get a hold of anyone. I'll be crossing my fingers all day....

I'm assuming you are speaking of the Echo Lounge in Atlanta, GA. as far as I can tell, this is not true. The Echo Lounge recently passed fire inspections and also are up to date on their liquor license.
Pedro the Lion and John Vanderslice are scheduled to perform at the Echo tonight. I am awaiting a return call from a friend of mine that works at Echo. i'll keep you up to date.

Well, I got the following e-mail from The Echo Lounge today saying that shows for today and tomorrow have been moved to different venues. But they also sent out an e-mail will all their future and new shows as well. So I would conclude there is just a problem with the venue that needs to be fixed, not that it is closing down....I hope.

I talked to some people, and from what I can gather, it had something to do with their business license. Something about the Atlanta Bureaucracy. He filed with the county, but not the city, or vice-versa. The people he filed with was were supposed to send a copy to the other part, but didn't, etc., etc.
Which leads to my theory: The government sucks.

you are right, it was a business license issue but it has now been cleared up. no more shows are moving. The club is now back open but they will NOT be having the show tonight, that has been moved to the Earl. But, the club is back open now and everything has been cleared up.

Is it that bad? If there were any jobs listed that weren't unpaid internships I'd have sent my resume already...

According to an e-mail that the Echo Lounge sent out today all of their shows will now be 21+. Even though I'm over 21 I'm still sad to hear this, as some younger people will now be missing good shows. I'm sure came about because of their recent business license issue.

After re-opening, the Echo Lounge has now closed again, this time for good. I'm not very happy. Here's what happened: http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/2005-01-13/news_scalawag.html
