Hey everyone,
we just got word that we are responsible for fillling the FINAL 50 seats for a 850 seat theatre at the Atlanta Film Festival TONIGHT. There will be a screening of a movie and then an aftershow invitation-only party that you would be invited to as well.
More details about the movie, time, place, etc to follow VERY soon so keep an eye out right here. Just wanted to give you a heads up to be on the lookout for this last minute once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
We want to get word out about this so anyone that is willing to help get butts in seats on short notice, email me at peter@shakefire.com. PLEASE do not email us or ask for tickets if you know you or your friends cannot go. This will be the first 50 people, NOT couples. So, if you want to bring a friend, request 2.
The screening will be at 8:00PM so if you can make this, it would be a HUGE help for us.
more details coming in the next hour....

Ok here is a little more information about the screening. The movie is Stander and it stars Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Ashley Taylor, David O'Hara, Dexter Fletcher, Deborah Unger, Marius Weyers, At Botha, Lionel Newton, Melanie Merle, Hannes Muller, Shaeleen Tobin, Sean Else. This movie won't hit theaters until August 6th but you can see it tonite for free. If you would like tickets here is the link: www.shakefire.com/screening-stander.html . Please don't request unless you know you can go, and if you want tickets for more than just you please tell us since the tickets are only good for one entry. Thanks!

Ive hear Thomas Jane is excellent in this movie and of course much better that in that Punisher crap :p
too bad I cant make it :(
here's the info on the info for all those interested :)
In the early 1980's, a white police officer (Andres Stander, played by Thomas Jane) in Johannesburg suffers a crisis of conscience due to his involvement in apartheid and becomes a notorious bank robber on the run. Then from 1983 to 1984, the "Stander gang" (Stander, Alan Heyl & Patrick McCall) rob as many as four banks a day.

ahhh, come on Hakeem, cancel whatever you have planned and go! We need you! i'll give you a dollar*
*paid in yearly installments for 40 years.
Ok gang! I have lived in Atlanta a VERY short time and know NOTHING about downtown. And I don't really know anyone besides the people I work with, of which ALL of them are wimps who said things like "ohh that's too far to drive" "I don't like going downtown" etc.
I really would like to go but don't relish the idea of being out alone in unfamiliar territory etc. Anyone who's going to the screening who'd like to have a new friend -- and someone else to attend the screening with... please let me know. :) Thanks!
EDIT: Moved from DFW for a job, so I'm unfamiliar with ALL of GA. :(

oh, but I think I am. ;)
Flea-There will be a bunch of Shakefire people there, I wouldn't worry about being lonely. A lot of people go alone and a lot of people make quick friends at screenings, it's like one big family.

i got myself all psyched up for it before i saw hakeem's most recent post - which leads me to believe all the seats are filled, so i'm over it - damn being at work all day!! oh well, have fun everyone who goes and let the rest of us know how it was
....maybe shakefire will also do a regular screening of it right before it comes out!!

nah, I didnt mean to say that the movie was filled :(
the thing is that it was 6:30 already and my brother was leaving to go it and I had sent my email for the invitation just a few minutes ago, so he waited for me like 10 minutes but I didnt get a response so he left and I left to what I originally was going to do.
sorry if you didnt went because of me pinskyman :(

So any reports from those who went? How was the movie? The after-party? Did any of the actors show up? I would have loved to go, but I had other plans that I had shelled out money for ahead of time. I went to a screening of Dogma in Atlanta back before it was released and Kevin Smith showed up to ask us what we thought, it was pretty cool.

ok, i'm assuming that everyone is waiting until Monday to report back on this because of Father's Day, etc. I'm hoping it's not because everyone bailed....

Thanks for the invitation. Sorry for the confusion earlier, you did send the invitation emails to both of us. I just didn't know it was a separate invitation email per person and asked you to send again last minutes, which caused you to send it twice. I really appreciate it. :D Both of us went to the screening, some SF message board folks were there.
I really like the film, it was a gripping crime drama... it was even more engrossing when we know all actually took place back in the 70s. Thomas Jane is on his way to indie stardom. He's naked in fair amount in the film, not that I care (no, wait, that's a lie). I want to see as much nudity as possible, male and female... and stick it to the MPAA. :p
The Q&A was quite insightful. I was surprised (in a good way) that the director is a woman. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing even remotely bad about it, it's just that I automatically made the wrong assumption with all the testoterone in the film. The after-party was fun too, and we got free Tiger beer... hey, free beer!! Enough said, yo. ;) The director also showed up at the after-party about 30 minutes after the Q&A session. Too bad I didn't get a chance to talk to her.
Overall, Friday night was a great night for me. It wasn't a good day to start with at first, I only got two hours of sleep the night before. But it was improved considerably... Got to see a riveting film two month before actual release date, with the director attending... and free beer after party! What can I say, Shakefire, you did it again. Bravo!!! Bravo!!! :D

Here's some delayed feedback on Stander:
It was good but I personally didn't like it as much as most of the other people - partly because it was difficult to understand the dialog (that was a problem at the Rialto throughout most of the Festival). The best part was the Q&A with the director after the movie and getting to talk to her at the party. The party itself was crowded, loud, dark, full of cigarette smoke - in short a typical Friday night party.
I know Image appreciated having the house filled up since the director was there and they wanted her to feel as if a lot of people wanted to see her film.
The odd thing for me was seeing all the Atlanta Film Festival people mixing with all the regular Shakefire screening people. Just about everyone I know in Atlanta was there.
Thanks again for the ticket.

I went to the Braves game Friday night and didn't get home until fairly late....was sad to see the email invitation knowing that I missed out on what seems to have been a pretty cool evening.
Tried to find a thread on Stander in the Talk about Movie section, but found it here :).
I loved the movie. It's fast-paced and full of surprises. Thomas Jane's performance is truly outstanding. Stronly recommend others to see this movie when it's out :).
