They recently advertised an Hd DVD player for 299.99. When I went to the store to purchase the dvd player in wasnt the one I wanted. The one they say was in the add is the 1080I and the one I wanted was the 1080p. In the ad it did not specify a model and I fought with the compnay with no resolve. I am now using the BBB to fight my case. If you are looking to Buy something from HHgreggs ads be sure of what they advertise, they tend to bait and switch their products, advertise one thing and give you another..so be very careful......

HHgreg is gonna follow in the footsteps of HIFI buys and shut down, so don't worry =P (this is of course mere speculation)-

Actually, Clark Howard was talking about the shadiness of Best Buy on his program recently. Apparently they have fake intranet sites. So you can see a deal at home online, get to the store, they'll tell you that they're not offering that deal anymore. You say you just saw it online, so they'll bring up the fake intranet site with different offers. Now that's ultra shady.

Yep best buy admitted to it too-
I prefer Frys above the rest, they have great deals and the stores are really nice

well, we don't have fry's in NC and i never look online at the ads. i do read ads in the paper on Sunday. If you bring an ad you can get a rain check from someplaces or you can call them ahead of time and tell them to put one thing on hold for you. But I'm probably the wrong person to ask b/c I'm still pissed they took my Media Play away! :( whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Ok, this doesn't make any sense to me. why do they go through so much trouble to produce these fake sites! Instead, the money they spend on these fake sites should be given to the customers that want the deal that was offered to them!! Big companies will do anything to save a buck. Now that I know about this, I will be more informed when doing my shopping! It probably helps to print out the ad and bring it to the store, but I hate printing stuff from my printer b/c it is just too darn expensive.

The markups in those large chain electronic stores are ridiculous and their practices are shady. I never buy anything from them. Do your homework before making a purchase. Read the reviews online and see what other people are saying. Get a subscription to Consumer Reports online and or their magazine. Listen to Clark Howard. Only use the big box stores to see a product in person. Then go buy the product you selected for 25-50% less from a reputable online dealer. My favorite site is www.pricegrabber.com

wow... i stopped shopping at Best buy and walked into HHGregg and walked back out because I though they were practicing bait and switch operations... I would see adverts for one thing and get to the store and the product would be no where to be found..or they are selling the same computer that Frys is and the one at the store was like $300 more than the one at frys... shame

I only shop at Best Buy if I am doing a price match from a competitor. Their customer service desk people probably hate me. Best Buy has a 20% or more markup on most things, really a rip off.

As far as I know, the internet sales from Best Buy are just that--internet sales. I've never had a problem with doing the "view weekly ad" thing for my local area and then walking into the store. Everything that they say should be on sale in that always is. It's unfortunate that other people have problems, though.

Thanks for the warning. I'm always looking at HHgregg's sunday advertisings and the flat screen's prices are so good, I knew that there had to be a catch there somewhere.

Never been to an HHgregg but Best Buy has some downsides. I bought a Toshiba laptop from there & it had some easy to fix problems covered under the Toshiba warranty. I had to send it off for 2-3 weeks at a time (during school when I needed it the most) twice & both times it was not fixed because Best Buy hadn't given them enough or proper information about the problems. They have a policy with their own warranties too. You have to send it off three times before they'll replace it. Very inconvenient.
