The Men Who Stare at Goats (Official Thread)

Director: Grant Heslov
Writers: Peter Straughan (screenplay), Jon Ronson (book)
Starring: George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, Rebecca Mader, Terry Serpico
Genre: Comedy
Release Date: November 6, 2009
Studio: Overture Films

Synopsis: In this quirky dark comedy inspired by a real life story you will hardly believe is actually true, astonishing revelations about a top-secret wing of the U.S. military come to light when a reporter encounters an enigmatic Special Forces operator on a mind-boggling mission.

Reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) is in search of his next big story when he encounters Lyn Cassady (Academy Award® winner George Clooney), a shadowy figure who claims to be part of an experimental U.S. military unit. According to Cassady, the New Earth Army is changing the way wars are fought. A legion of "Warrior Monks" with unparalleled psychic powers can read the enemy’s thoughts, pass through solid walls, and even kill a goat simply by staring at it. Now, the program's founder, Bill Django (Oscar® nominee Jeff Bridges), has gone missing and Cassady's mission is to find him.

Intrigued by his new acquaintance's far-fetched stories, Bob impulsively decides to accompany him on the search. When the pair tracks Django to a clandestine training camp run by renegade psychic Larry Hooper (two-time Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey), the reporter is trapped in the middle of a grudge match between the forces of Django's New Earth Army and Hooper's personal militia of super soldiers. In order to survive this wild adventure, Bob will have to outwit an enemy he never thought possible.

"The Men Who Stare at Goats" was inspired by Jon Ronson's non-fiction bestseller of the same name, an eye-opening and often hilarious exploration of the government's attempts to harness paranormal abilities to combat its enemies. http://www.themenwhostareatgoatsmovie.com/

I'm looking forward to seeing this one. Being a Ewan fan and Star Wars fan, I was won over when hearing Clooney say Jedi to Ewan.

Re: The Men Who Stare at Goats (Official Thread)

the premise of the movie seems a little 'twilight zonish", but it still looks funny.

Re: The Men Who Stare at Goats (Official Thread)

This movie looks funny yet edgy.Feels like a Coen Bros. type of movie.
What perfect casting from what I've seen in the trailer. This movie looks fresh and original.I can't wait to see it.
Like Lee Roberts said To see Cloony say that He's a jedi to Ewan is enough for me to see it.

On the tv ad, the funniest part is when Clooney said, "Oops, I think I just ran over him, " referring to the guy he'd just been yelling at that he was there to help.

I liked this movie. The humor was easy going and not forced.A smart film with good writing. The characters were great. There was a few slow places but the movie was good enough to be patient for.George Clooney and Jeff Bridges were great as usual.

I still can't tell what this movie is really about. But it defintely looks like one of those crazy dry sense of humor type movies. I'll bet it's actually worth seeing.

Re: The Men Who Stare at Goats (Official Thread)

The more that I see previews for the movie the stranger it seems to get. My first question is is this really based on a true movie everytime I see that I am like they are lying and then I wonder what parts could and maybe true. All that aside it does look like it would be one funny movie so I just may go and check it out anyway and see what it really is all about. Like the saying goes never judge a book or a movie by its cover.
