The Untold Truth

The Untold Truth finds voice in Louis Gossett Jr.
Roots star partners with Wrapped Productions to tell
a modern tale of the Negro Baseball Leagues

March 4, 2008 - Los Angeles, CA: Academy Award-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr. is realizing a lifelong dream to produce and narrate the documentary film The Untold Truth - The True Stories of the Negro Baseball Leagues. Gossett Jr. is partnering with Los Angeles-based Wrapped Productions and its principals John Rittenour, Gregg Champion, and Gary Ballen, who secured exclusive rights from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum to tell the story.

The Untold Truth will focus on the history of “Black Baseball” - from slavery to Jackie Robinson’s breaking of the color barrier - and celebrate the contributions African-Americans made to United States history through the great game of baseball. The documentary will uniquely feature today’s icons from sports, music, and entertainment discussing this period in American history and expose a new generation to lessons that have never been shared in the proper light. The film will be accompanied by an original soundtrack featuring some of today’s platinum artists from rap, hip hop, R&B, jazz, and pop.

Gossett Jr., whose acting credits include Roots, An Officer and A Gentleman, and Iron Eagle, runs the Eracism Foundation, which is dedicated to the eradication of all forms of racism and the empowerment of young people through entertainment and education. That is why Gossett Jr. feels so strongly about this project, even equating it to the significance of the monumental mini-series, Roots. Gossett Jr. said, “Roots showcased African-American history from slave trade to emancipation. The Untold Truth picks up the story from there and takes us on a journey that chronicles the accomplishments of African-Americans from the late 1800’s to the mid-1900’s.”

Wrapped Productions is a multi-media production company with projects in film, television, music, and new media. The Untold Truth project does not end with the release of the film. The producers have secured distribution to public schools. Rittenour stated, “The legacy of this project will live on for years. The documentary will be part of an educational media kit for schools to incorporate into Black History Month education every February.”

“By bringing names like Jesse Jackson, Tiger Woods, Nelly, Rachel Robinson, Tyrese Gibson and others whose lives and careers have been impacted and inspired by the leagues and their players, we’re certain more A-list names will continue to come aboard as we roll out this once in a lifetime project,” concluded Ballen.

Movies Re: The Untold Truth

...will be more than interesting to see the most "ironic" moment in sports history to the tune of Hip Hop, Rap, Pop and Jazz.
...have a digitally remastered DVD version of ..."The Jackie Robinson Story," (1950) starring Jackie Robinson himself, with Ruby Dee, Minor Watson, and Louise Beavers...a biographical film of (JR), the first African American major league baseball player in the 20th century (1947)
