Re: Wendy's Free Frosty Weekend
The one where this woman claimed she found about an inch of the tip of a finger in a bowl of chili from Wendy's. It was all over the news for a week or two and it really hurt Wendy's business. They showed the finger on the news and everything. Eeeww. Now apparently it's being reported that it was all a hoax. I think there are charges filed against the woman.

Re: Wendy's Free Frosty Weekend
I stopped watching the news long ago, too much bad stuff on it. But as for the finger thing, damn now that's got to suck if it is real. I doubt it is though. But wouldn't someone notice A) that there was a finger in the chili mix when it was made or B) that they lost a finger when making it? There's been lots of times when I've been working and got a cut on my hand that I didn't notice but I'm pretty sure if I was making some chili and lost a finger I would know that I did. And when in the process of making chili is there required the use of something sharp enough to cut a finger?

Re: Wendy's Free Frosty Weekend
I think the chili is made in some large processing plant and then shipped all over the states. I guess it was a possibility that a worker there had lost it and not wanted to tell for fear of losing their job or something. Anyway, I just saw this posted on MSNBC today. Mystery solved.
MSNBC.com ‘The jig is up’ Wendy's finger-in-chili case develops; digit belonged to associate of accuser's husband BREAKING NEWS The Associated Press Updated: 2:48 p.m. ET May 13, 2005 SAN JOSE, Calif. - The finger that a woman said she found in a bowl of Wendy’s chili came from an associate of her husband who lost the digit in an industrial accident, police said Friday. “The jig is up. The puzzle pieces are beginning to fall into place,” Police Chief Rob Davis said. The man is from Nevada and lost a part of his finger in an accident last December, Davis said. His identity was traced through a tip made to Wendy’s hot line, he said. He said authorities “positively confirmed that this subject was in fact the source of the fingertip.” Anna Ayala, the woman who said she found the finger, was arrested last month at her suburban Las Vegas home. Ayala said she bit down on a 1 1/2 inch-long finger fragment while dining with her family in March at a San Jose Wendy’s. But authorities had said they believed the story was a hoax. Ayala’s husband, Jaime Plascencia, was arrested earlier this month on a fugitive warrant at the couple’s home to face charges unrelated to the Wendy’s case. San Jose police had said he used his children’s personal information in a fraudulent manner for personal gain, and he was charged with identity theft, fraudulent use of official documents, failure to pay child support and child abandonment. The man who lost the finger, whose name was not released, had given the finger fragment to Plascencia, Davis said. A phone call to Ayala’s attorney on Friday was not immediately returned. Wendy’s has offered a $100,000 reward and has said it has lost millions in sales since Ayala made the claim. Dozens of employees at the company’s Northern California franchises also have been laid off. “There are victims in this case that have suffered greatly,” Davis said. Wendy’s had said all the employees at the San Jose store were found to have all their fingers, and no suppliers of Wendy’s ingredients have reported any hand or finger injuries. © 2005 The Associated Press. Re: Wendy's Free Frosty Weekend
Did she turn the finger in? And is this woman a hillbilly? Cause only a hillbilly would think of a plan to get money by saying they found a finger in food and get an actual finger from someone and still not realize that the finger will still have a finger print on it. Hell, if you going to use something pick something like a crayon or one of the nuggets, it's more believe that you choked on the rubber nugget then a finger.

What I want to know is, did they keep the finger on ice since December? I hardly ever go to Wendy’s, maybe a few times a year for the salads. I don’t like their burgers, but I can eat ice cream anywhere. And I’m all about the free stuff. Thanks, Otter. |

Re: Wendy's Free Frosty Weekend
The whole finger incident reminds me of the Canadian movie 'Strange Brew' where the two brothers put a mouse in an empty beer bottle and go to the brewery trying to get free beer. Funny stuff.

Re: Wendy's Free Frosty Weekend
I went by there and the frosties are tiny. About as small as the little cups they give patients their daily pills in. Just a warning not to get your hopes up. It's probably not even worth the gas money if you have to go out of your way.

Re: Wendy's Free Frosty Weekend
Yeah, I got a decent-sized cup, too. About 6 oz. of ice cream. It was pretty good.

Re: Wendy's Free Frosty Weekend
I got mine today and I got the tiny little cup, though she was nice enough to give me 2 of them.
