(500) Days of Summer (Official Thread)
Did anyone else catch this great film last night here in Atlanta?
So far for me, this was the best film of the year. Both engaging and original, the movie turns the narrative structure on its head (even breaking the fourth wall on occasion). Joseph Gordon-Leavitt was outstanding while Zooey Deschanel was superbly sublime. There were also memorable supporting characters as well. |

Re: "500 Days of Summer"
It screened at the Atlanta Film Festival on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I was working that night and it was also sold out. It should be coming back around sometime soon.

Re: "500 Days of Summer"
Oh, wow, I am looking forward to this one. I love Zooey Deschanel, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt since "The Lookout" is growing on me.
SYNOPSIS: Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn't. The post modern love story is never what we expect it to be - it's thorny yet exhilarating, funny and sad, a twisted journey of highs and lows that doesn't go quite where we think it will. When Tom, a hapless greeting card copywriter and hopeless romantic, is blindsided after his girlfriend Summer drops him, he shifts back and forth through various periods of their 500 days "together" to try to figure out where things went wrong. His reflections ultimately lead him to finally rediscover his true passions in life. http://www.foxsearchlight.com/500daysofsummer/ ![]() |

(500) Days of Summer is a film with great, creative storytelling. The film’s tag line is “This is not a love story. This is a story about love.” Here’s the thing about that tag line: It is absolutely true. It is how love goes in real life and how it affects relationships and the people in them.
This film opened the 40th Anniversary of the Nashville Film Festival, and it was a great film to kick it off. The story is about Tom, who writes greeting cards, but wants so much more. He meets Summer, and things really begin to heat up. They start a friendship that turns in to a relationship. However, Tom is caught off-guard when Summer dumps him. The whole film is about Tom looking back on the 500 days he spent with her, and where and how it all went wrong or if it was just not meant to be. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Tom and Zooey Deschanel plays Summer. They are so good together on-screen. Their chemistry is undeniable even though Tom and Summer may not be meant for each other. These are two young actors who have a lot of promise. Levitt has already been in some good movies including Stop-Loss and The Lookout. I cannot forget his break-out role in Brick. Zooey Deschanel was in The Happening, but was also in the funny Yes Man with Jim Carrey. However, she has independent roots with being in Winter Passing, Eulogy, and upcoming Gigantic. Levitt and Deschanel are good, young actors, and are great in this together. This is director Marc Webb’s first film and what a debut for him. He turned what could have been a cheesy, predictable romantic comedy in to a slice of reality that does not put love on a pedestal. It shows it for what it truly is, whether it’s good or bad. The film goes back and forth from past and present and in between the 500 days Tom spent with Summer. But you are never lost, but perhaps even more captivated as the relationship changes like seasons. There is even a voice over in the film that would sound ridiculous, but it’s not. Instead, it feels so relevant and right. This story about love is original and unique. It’s full of creativity and mixes a lot of elements to tell its story. This will probably be the best film I see at the Nashville Film Festival this year. And I’m almost certain it’s one of the best I have seen so far this year. |

Very interesting movie. Funny at times and at times it makes you stop and think about your life. How the choices you make today, changes everything for tomorrow. It teaches that even if you made the wrong choice sometime in your life, you can move on from that and make the right choice.

This is such a clever film, I loved how they went back and forth through the relationship. There were also some incredibly good one liners. I would definitely recommend seeing this movie.

This was a good movie. Definitely did a good job showing how tough a breakup can be from a male's perspective

Re: (500) Days of Summer (Official Thread)
I saw this last night and I loved it. It's a different type of story. Older people will probably hate how it keeps going back and forth between good times and bad. But it's honest. Loved seeing a guys perspective especially without all the gross out gags & jokes that have been in most of the guy films lately.
It's only about 90 minutes, but a definite go see! Joseph Gordon-Levitt has grown up so much and its good to see a child star actually make the transition to more serious roles instead of getting lost in hollywood drinking and partying and all that other stuff. |
