2006 Sub City Take Action Tour

Hot Topic Presents- The 2006 Sub City Take Action! Tour
Raises Over $100,000 For The Kristin Brooks Hope Center To Help Battle Suicide And Depression.
If You Are In A Crisis Please Call 1877 YOUTHLINE & 1 800 SUICIDE.

Every Day In America Thirteen People Between The Ages of 12 And 24 Die From Suicide.

Take Actions Mission Continues On The Warped Tour By Bringing Non-Profit Groups Together.

For every one homicide there are two suicides! - Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) at the Take Action! Tour press conference, March 1st 2006, on Capitol Hill.

This b****l and horrifying reality is the reason the Take Action! Tour needs to exist. Each day in America there are twice as many suicides as there are homicides, yet homicide dominates the headlines, as well as government attention and funds. Why does America ignore such a powerful killer? Why do the media and the government refuse to address this epidemic in any meaningful way? Take Action! unifies our community to raise our voices on this quiet epidemic.

Teamed with the Kristin Brooks Hope Center, the 2006 Take Action! Tour gathered some of the biggest names in Punk, Indie, and Hardcore music to bring awareness of suicide and depression to the front page. The tour wrapped up last week in Buffalo, NY with yet another sold out show. The night ended a 46 city tour where Matchbook Romance, Silverstein, The Early November, Chiodos, Amber Pacific, and more spread a message of hope and awareness to young people.

The 5th annual tour, organized by Hopeless/ Sub City Records and presented by Hot Topic raised over $100,000 for the Kristin Brooks Hope Center (KBHC) and the assistance lines they operate: 1-877-YOUTHLINE and 1-800-SUICIDE. In addition to the $100,000, the nationwide tour also informed over 40,000 fans in attendance about the issues of depression and suicide that affect millions of young people each year. The message has also reached over 22,000 people to date through the sale of the Take Action! Volume 5 compilation. Hopeless/Sub City Records donates 5% of the retail list price from the sale of each compilation to the Kristin Brooks Hope Center.

Since the Take Action! Tour began there has been a 5% decrease in suicide, as well as an increase in government funding for suicide prevention- from $0 to $16 million. During this time Hopeless/Sub City Records has raised over $320,000 for KBHC through the Take Action! Tour and compilation series. In spite of this tremendous progress, the epidemic of suicide continues to take thousands of young people from us each year.

Take Action aims to create a better world, one voice, one action at a time. If you or a loved one is in a crisis there is a confidential resource to help you.
Take Action! benefits the Kristin Brooks Hope Center. Please call 1-877-YOUTHLINE or 1-800-SUICIDE.

With the final show in Buffalo, NY, the 2006 Take Action! Tour came to a close, but the cause lives on in the actions of Hopeless/Sub City Records and Take Action! during summer. Take Action! will be traveling with the Warped Tour spreading the message of hope and activism, gaining signatures for increased government funding of mental health programs, and setting up the Take Action! Non-Profit Area. This area gathers all the participating non-profit organizations in one area where fans can learn how to make this world a better place for all of us.

Hopeless/ Sub City Records has now donated over $800,000 to various charitable organizations through their tours and releases.

Hopeless/Sub City Records would like to thank and commend the Kristin Brooks Hope Center for their tireless work in preventing suicide and depression. This tour would also not be possible without the help of Hot Topic, whose involvement in this cause extends far beyond their financial contribution. All of the 2006 sponsors have generously donated time, money and resources to help bring this issue to light. Hopeless/ Sub City Records would also like to thank Matchbook Romance and all the bands and labels involved this year that brought the message directly to fans and made a real difference in countless lives. Thank you also to Jamie Kelsall and everyone at APA for booking an amazing tour.
