Re: The Astronaut Farmer

(Does double take). Billy Bob Thorton goes PG. I can hear hell freezing over big time.

I've heard just this name circulating through the usual channels but have never heard a synopsis til now. Sounds like The Worlds Fastest Indian slightly. Not to big a fan of Billy Bob though so the advertisements would have to be really good inorder to get me excited. Anyone remember October Sky. Kind of a small scale telling of a boys love for rockets. Was boring but okay to see once. Hopefully Billy Bob can show us he's not just some one trick pony.

The astronaut Farmer

Attended a screening tonight, weather was bad during the day so only a few people were there.
The movie was not one critics will rave about but for a light drama it was good. It's had to believe that someone could build a rocket and fly it getting parts from srap yards but I guess if you have the knowledge and monies you can. I enjoyed it. Joe

You must not have been in Atlanta because our theater was very crowded despite the bad weather. I loved the movie. It reminded me a lot of both Field of Dreams and October Sky. And there's another October Sky connection. I'll be very impressed by the first person who comes up with it. (HINT: It has to do with relativity).

This looks like a movie I could take my daughter to, and we could both enjoy.

I agree, the concept of someone building a rocket in their barn is definitely tired.

Too much negativism!
I think you need to see this movie simply for the inspiration.

I just think of that Jake Gyllanhal movie October Sky. And like Radio Flyer. It just seems like a tired old concept of hickey people living in a rural, crappy area where they try to build/make/do something like this and are criticized/shunned/looked at funny for it. And I think that Billy Bob is a bad actor who's best role was Slingblade which I liked. He is creepy and ugly - I don't like to see him as the leading man. Now, maybe if the leading man was, say, Brad Pitt, or Ryan Reynolds, or Matthew McConaughey, or Jake Gyllanhal again or an ok ugly guy like Paul Giamatti - possibly then I would be interested.

Re: The Astronaut Farmer (Official Thread)

From this discussion, it seems that I am in the minority group-I liked the movie. I'm not a Billy Bob fan (he always looks dirty) but I actually enjoyed his performance in this movie.

Not bad but a little slow at times. Just suspend your disbelief... I love Madsen as an actress though.
