Sam Raimi Saddles Up For Wyatt Earp

Like a greedy forager at a film project buffet, Sam Raimi just can’t stop adding possible projects to his overloaded plate. The latest morsel to catch his eye? A graphic novel called Earp: Saints for Sinners.

Originally created by Matt Cirulnick, M Zachary Sherman and David Manpearl for Radical Publishing, the planned three-issue series takes the story of Earp (famed for the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral) – and re-imagines him in a dystopian future where most of the cities are in ruins and the one bright spot is Las Vegas. It’s Earp’s job to fight off outlaws and bandits, but after one of his assignments leaves his brother dead, he quits the Marshal service and tries to find a new life in Vegas. Unfortunately for him, his past is about to catch up.

Cirulnick is writing the script for the adaptation, which DreamWorks is developing. Radical is planning a big launch for the series, which has yet to hit shelves, at this week's Comic-Con in San Diego.

Raimi, meanwhile, will watch over it as it simmers away, and will choose between it and the several other likely films (Warcraft, anyone?) he has on the go once he’s finished making Oz, The Great and Powerful for Disney.
