Florence + The Machine have pulled out of two European concerts because the lead singer has lost her voice and been told not to perform to avoid permanent damage. Florence Welch explained the situation on Twitter Wednesday.
"It's true… it finally happened, I've lost my voice," she wrote. "I've sustained a vocal injury and been told I cannot sing for a week. Seriously I felt something snap, it was very frightening."
The British band was due to play at the Benicassim festival in Spain on Thursday and at the Optimus Alive event in Portugal this weekend.
Welch has been passing on her apologies throughout the day.
"I'm so sorry to all the fans, I was desperate to still perform, but was told without question not to, so as not to do permanent damage," she said. "Actually feeling a bit teary looking at all your messages… thank you. I'm gonna get mended real quick and come sing all your houses down."
The flame-haired Welch fronts the Grammy-nominated seven-piece band, which released its latest album, "Ceremonials," last year.
