Fourth 'Star Trek' Film Announced; Chris Hemsworth to Return as George Kirk

Ahead of the release of Star Trek Beyond, Paramount has offically announced production of a fourth Star Trek film and that it will feature the return of Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk as he finally crosses paths with the son he never met.

Before he was the God of Thunder, Chris Hemsworth made his film debut in J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek as George Kirk, Captain of the USS Kelvin and soon-to-be father of James T. Kirk. His appearance in the film was brief, but his character and legacy has had a lasting impact on Chris Pine's Captain Kirk throughout the series so far. Time travel isn't anything new to the rebooted Star Trek universe. The first film featured an older Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy, from 129 years in the future, so it's not inconcieveable that Captain Kirk and his team could somehow find a way to travel back into the past to a time when his father was still alive.

Currently only Hemsworth and Pine are confirmed to star in the sequel, although the remaining cast is expected to return as well. The script is being written by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, with J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber producing through Bad Robot Productions and David Ellison and Dana Goldberg from Skydance signing on as executive producers. No director has been announced at this time, however.
