John Oliver Joins 'The Lion King' as Zazu

John Oliver has been cast in the upcoming CGI/live-action adaptation of Disney's The Lion King as Zazu, a hornbill and Mufasa's right hand bird in charge of keeping Simba in line.

Oliver join a cast that includes Donald Glover as Young Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon, and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa. He takes over the role from Rowan Atkinson, who voiced Zazu in the original 1994 animated film.

The Lion King is being directed by Jon Favreau and will use the same technology that brough The Jungle Book to life. The film is set to be released on July 19, 2019 and will be shot back-to-back with the sequel to The Jungle Book.
