n April 20, 2010, an explosion on the oil rig Deepwater Horizon releases thousands of gallons of petroleum into the Gulf of Mexico. Mike Williams (Wahlberg), a veteran driller, leads an effort to rescue his fellow workers and seal the leak, while his family back home deals with the environmental consequences of the disaster.
