My first personal experience with Ron White was not a good one. My older brother had pushed the Blue Collar Comedy Tour on me for weeks and weeks and weeks until finally I gave in. Possibly it was the trouble of having to erk my way through Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy that ruined the fun of Ron White for me this time round. On his own, without having to sit through half a dozen Git Er Done’s or You Might Be A Redneck jokes, there is less of a novelty effect and that’s what gets delivered here in Ron White: Behavioral Problems.

Okay so second time around, possibly it was even funnier since I didn’t get a whole lot of sleep, I settle down to watch the Ron White Comedy Central Special. So the special kicks off and White leans in with his trademark cigar and scotch sitting tableside and for the first few minutes the humor just isn’t connecting. A ton of attitude backed up by a few F-Bombs but nothing that particularly grabs me. Then, and I’m wondering if maybe the scotch hasn’t loosened the old boy up, the comedy just starts connecting. Its not particularly the jokes but the offhanded delivery of them. Its not so much stand up but talking to an old friend whose ability to deliver a story comes out slurred, coated with vulgarity, but well timed. At this time it doesn’t matter what the man’s saying it all seems rather comical to me as he starts to remind me of anyone’s drunk uncle at anytime, anyplace. Of course, a few more glasses of scotch and the comedy gets school yard raunchy and I’m so off my defenses that I’m cracking up hard and before I realize it the show is over and I’m clicking on play feature again. It may not be the most intelligently constructed comedy act in the world but Ron White sure as hell knows how to win you over. Definitely worth checking out. Enjoy.
