Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey) has put of having a baby in exchange for a successful career. At 37 she is desperate for a baby and has tried everything including artificial insemination and adoption only to find that a single career woman has almost no chance of adopting and that she does in fact have a T shaped uterus which makes it impossible for her to become pregnant.  When all else fails she finds herself a surrogate mother to carry her child for her. Enter Angie Ostrowiski (Amy Poehler), the least likely candidate to carry another persons child. The two women find themselves living together in Kate’s apartment as a female version of the Odd Couple and Kate must balance work, her love life, and looking after Angie.

The theater was full of laughter and its justified. There are plenty of scenes in the film that have cause for laughter but as far as comedy goes there is no humor substance, only one liners, which I found disappointing. For the most part the majority of the funny bits in this predictable film you see in the commercials. With all that being said its amazing that the film was so jam packed with celebrity comedians and that, to me, it was only a mediocre comedy. Veteran actor Steve Martin plays a very weird and somewhat creepy environmentalist while Siobhan Fallon (Men In Black) plays a “birthing teacher” with a ridiculous speech impediment that puts a new spin on the word contrived.

Like I said, the film is predictable to the point that you know how its going to end before you even reach the middle of the film. Its satisfactory enough that you can get a good laugh out of it but as far as a lasting comedy this one wont stand the test of time. At best I’d call this one a rental.
