Battle for Terra

Battle for Terra

In Theatres:
May 01, 2009

Earth has been destroyed and what's left of the remaining humans have fled to space in search for a planet to populate. There, they come across Terra, a host planet suitable for life. Unfortunately it already has life, the peaceful Terrians, who would rather celebrate life than destroy it. Now, the two races must fight for the planet or face extinction.

It is interesting to see a film where humanity is the enemy. The film is shot (animated?) mainly from the Terrian perspective and you really don't know who is going to win out until it happens. Throughout the entire film, you're mind goes back and forth between humans and Terrians, as who will be glorious in the end.

Even though it's an animated film, this one is not for the kiddies. It's a war, and war is ugly. Yes, things are toned down compared to the likes of Saving Private Ryan and such, but it still might be somewhat disturbing for children. Just a warning. Another prominent theme is the fact that we are destroying our planet. That's basically how it is presented in the film. It is one big promotion as how we need to 'save' our planet. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but that it should be presented in a more educational environment rather than an animated action film.

You can watch the film in 3D if you want but there is no real advantage to it. At this point, the feature is still not that good with any film so I wouldn't waste any extra money on it just yet. Battle for Terra is an enjoyable film to watch for the most part. It has quite the array of cast members as well but most of the time you cannot tell whose voice belongs to which actor except for a few. I leave this one up to you to decide if you want to see it or not.
