Bearcat is the name for pretty much everything from scanning devices to a single engine naval fighting aircraft of the 1940’s, and let’s not forget the animal of the same name. What I didn’t find in my research is just who this band is. I guess you don’t really need to know who they are as long as you can grasp the basic fundamentals of their music. Unfortunately the music was just that, basic.

Bearcat deliver a beautiful EP, no doubt, but to me it just feels like more of the same girl with piano singing retro style vocals to bubblegum cheery songs. Even when the EP is gloomy it’s still cheery. Does the band have potential? Well of course, but because the band doesn’t bring a whole lot to the table we haven’t heard before your either going to be getting in on the ground floor fresh in the world or your going to have to find some niche that makes them standout in your book. To me, it’s just more of the same poppy indie mood music that we’ve heard from artists like Regina Spektor, Zooey Deschanel, A Fine Frenzy, Fiona Apple, etc. I don’t feel  a whole lot of fence sitting going on with this EP. Your either going to love it or your going to disregard it. As always final judgment is up to you.
