100 minutes

Charlie's friend Sully is played by actor Dave Franco who is the younger brother of actor James Franco (127 Hours).

Based on the novel by Ben Sherwood, Charlie St. Cloud (Zac Efron) is a young man who, after a car accident is brought back to life, gains the ability to see the dead. Once a prominent boater Charlie St. Cloud became a recluse after the death of his younger brother Sam. The man who brought him back from the dead, Paramedic Florio Ferrente (Ray Liotta), reunites with Charlie 5 years later over a cup of coffee with these departing words, “God doesn’t show off. He’s given you a second chance. This is a second chance. Don’t waste it.” A second chance to accomplish what? One part paranormal fantasy and another part a dramatic backdrop on moving on and moving forward. Also stars Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential), Charlie Tahan (Fringe), Donal Logue (Blade), Amanda Crew (Sex Drive) , Augustus Prew (About A Boy), and Dave Franco (Scrubs).

Charlie St. Cloud is a great quality Blu-Ray. It’s not super defined or overly colorful but the film manages to capture the world of Charlie St. Cloud in an organic look. The only things that are really prominent throughout the film is probably the color of Zac Efron’s eyes. The rest of the film manages to stay true to its natural color and texture. Clarity is great avoiding the usual suspects when it comes to Blu-Ray; no camera judder, video noise, or color levels spiking at any point. It’s a consistent film that, considering how vibrantly colored other BD releases are these days, will take some getting used to as far as realizing that the picture’s color and texture isn’t muted just very natural. Audio (DTS-HD MA 5.1) manages extremely well. The film doesn’t offer a wide spectrum of sound for all channels but it manages to sound bigger then it really is. It took me a few moments to realize the cannons they fire throughout the film weren’t coming from somewhere outside my living room. Dialogue is perfectly matched with the atmospheric sound of the film.

*Deleted Scenes - I would highly suggest simply to witness the bar scene which looks painstakingly done. Shame it didn’t make it into the film.
*On Location With Zac Efron
