Alan Hunter's George Gently novels are set in East Anglia, around the area in Norfolk where he grew up, but the TV series is set in Northumberland and is filmed in Ireland. ~IMDB

Set in the 1960’s George Gently follows in the long line of brilliant British Detective series. Martin Shaw (The Professionals) plays Inspector George Gently, a grizzled London detective and a grieving widower. Alongside George is Sergeant John Bacchus, played by Lee Ingleby (The Prisoner of Azkaban), who is married to his job, separated from his wife, and the proverbial bad cop to Gently’s more laid back good cop. The two work together to uncover clues to crimes set in the tension of the 1960’s and bring the bad guys to justice.

Surprisingly for a 1080i picture George Gently is a picture of perfection. There is only one instance in the entirety of the two episode series 3 collection that was off a bit, an exterior night shot that I blame the lighting on. Colors are so dense and vibrant, definition is razor sharp, and clarity is so opulent it looks as if you can reach right into your set and touch people and objects within the frame. It’s an extremely satisfying experience to witness such a beautiful HD picture. Audio is another surprising aspect as the show comes at you with a 2.0 Stereo PCM fantastically. George Gently is a dialogue driven show without much of anything else but what your intended to hear you hear without a hitch.

Sadly there are no bonus features.
