The Bravest Gladiator Heart

Mel Gibson was offered, but turned down the part of Maximus.

In the second of two releases (along with Braveheart) in the "Sapphire Series", Paramount plans to showcase their best award-winning movies (assumingly, Best Pictures winners, as we see here).  Gladiator doesn't quite take up as much of your time as Braveheart (it's about 6 minutes shy) but, like that Mel Gibson movie, it surely doesn't feel like nearly 3 hours.

QUALITY:
Amazing.  Though newer, the picture isn't QUITE as good as Braveheart but it's much more than acceptible.

BONUS FEATURES:
Featurettes, commentary, deleted scenes

The bonus features are heavy though I would have like to see more historical documentaries from the time.  The movie is still an incredibly enjoyable watch and just as disturbing and heart-wrenching as it was na a decade ago.  So far, two for two in the Sapphire Series, we'll see what happens.
