Even though I’ve probably watched, over the course of it’s history, possibly one or two episodes of American Idol I have heard music from at least one contestant from every season. Kelly Clarkson has a phenomenal voice but her lyrics are too repetitive for me. Taylor Hick’s Blue Eyed Soul is fantastic but limited I think to a select audience. David Cook has the same limited audience issue. As for the rest, well, who really cares. The problem has been that each contestant has risen to the challenge in their efforts to put out music but all of them have seemed a bit flawed or unable to cross all lines be they age, genre, or whatever. I do believe that Haley Reinhart is about to change all that.
First off, I am in love with this woman’s voice. It flirts at being kind of loose on style but always solidly delivers the perfect pitch, tone, and pronunciation that makes her voice sweet sounding, sultry, but also sexy. Not too deep, not too high, just perfect. A great combination of indie pop sensibility and smoke house jazz cool. Yeah, okay, I’ll stop.
In any case the album is a mixture of soul, pop, jazz, blues, and indie thrown together or taken separately. For someone like me who loves all of the above mentioned genres it’s just a treat to find someone who can perform them all and make them her own. There were maybe one or two songs that I couldn’t get into but they were still relatively well done and with as sweet and sultry a voice as Haley Reinhart has I look forward to just about anything she comes up with next. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but for once American Idol has delivered something that I feel die hard fan status quickly becoming a reality for me. Without a doubt check her stuff out on Youtube and buy this album. Must have more. As always final judgment is yours. Enjoy.
