Long story short I’ve never been a huge fan of Pop-Punk. That being as it may I threw on I Call Fives latest E.P. release, which works as a forerunner for the bands upcoming full length album, and my first go around I was conflicted, after all, it is a Pop-Punk album and, well, I’m me. Moving on.

I gave the new E.P., titled Someone That’s Not You, about five spins. Once I got passed the usual Pop-Punk vocal style (bubble gum cute I like to call it) I started to really listen to the album. On a technical stand point I Call Fives are a band that knows their stuff. Vocals are tight and well organized, drums are fantastic, and because of a great production sound all the instruments and vocals each have their own delivery lane which leaves room to capture every guitar string being strummed. This band has a real solid sound, even if I feel some of it is a bit formulaic to the genre.

The album contains four tracks; Title track, Back Up Plan, acoustic tune Lakeview, and a cover of Third Eye Blind’s How’s It Gonna Be. The first three are all brand new original songs that fans of Pop-Punk should love and even for music fans like myself who can live with or without Pop-Punk there is much to be impressed by from a technical viewpoint. Give the band a shot and see what you think. Enjoy.
