Lewis Black calls her the "funniest comic in America." Ron White says she's one of the "best comics alive." Her name is Kathleen Madigan and don't be surprised if you've never heard of her before. I haven't.
Gone Madigan is only her second DVD release although she has made numerous television appearances over the years. Her standup consists of anything and everything. She talks about politics, culture, and even her wild and crazy family. Believe me; they take up the majority of the jokes. Question is; is she funny?
QUALITY:
A comedy act isn't the best use of the Blu-ray format and Gone Madigan is no exception. There isn't much to look at aside from Madigan herself though. The blacks are solid although they could be a bit darker. Her comedy act however, is great. Is she the "funniest" or one of the "best comics alive?" No, but she ranks pretty high up there and you'll definitely get a good chuckle out of her.
BONUS FEATURES:
Interviews and Behind-the-Scenes.
I was rather disappointed with the lack of bonus features. While the two features included do give a decent look at what goes on when she's not front and center on the stage, I felt that there could have been more. Lewis Black opened for Madigan at this particular show. Why couldn't they add his segment as a bonus feature? I don't know. I just felt like the whole thing was rushed and sloppily put together.
Overall, Kathleen Madigan is a great comedian and her show is great. It just doesn't look all that good in high definition. Definitely watch or listen to her material, just save some money and stick with the DVD and you'll be fine.
