Katie Garibaldi is a singer/songwriter from San Francisco, California. Her musical influences include The Beatles, Mariah Carey, and Jewel. Her sound can be described as a hybrid of pop, country, folk, and rock bundled into one. She already has a devoted fan base, received critical praise, and won several awards for her work. Her 7th full-length album, “Follow your Heart,” was released on July 15th with a couple slight changes from her previous albums.
I can see how her musical influences play a role in producing Katie’s overall sound and feel on this album. You can hear and feel aspects of her musical influences on each of the songs on this album. She has great vocal range and a truly talented and melodic voice to go with her emotionally deep lyrics that are still easily relatable. The songs are mellow, but full of life and meaning. My only gripe I had was the lack of variety in the instrumentals and pacing of the album. I would have liked to have seen Katie take more risk and see what else she was capable of. Other than that, this was a good album and worth a listen if you like Colbie Caillat, Jewel, or Sheryl Crow. For those reasons, I am giving “Follow your Heart” a “B.”
