Laverne And Shirley

In the Eighth and final season of Laverne & Shirley Cindy Williams officially retires from the show after the first two episodes in which she gets married, gets pregnant and unceremoniously leaves Laverne with nothing but a note saying she’s moved on with her new husband. Strange. 

 

The rumor wheel goes that Williams really did become pregnant and sent in a list of demands to Paramount who quickly rejected the list. A big lawsuit ensued, an out of court settlement later and the show went on featuring just Penny Marshall, who would later leave the show after location disputes. 

 

Regardless of all the hoopla that went on in the shows final season the show remained a staple of the half hour situational comedy. All of the actors remained spot on in their comedic timing and beloved personas, special guests popped up left and right to fill in the gap left by Williams, and the writing never really suffered. The show remained high in ratings. 

 

22 Episodes make up the season with a gag reel and promo trailers supplying the supplemental material. Really, that’s usually more then older television shows offer. 

 

In any case I laughed my head off watching this never forgotten gem of a show that remains, to this day, a classic example of television done right. I highly suggest revisiting the series if you can and rediscovering the hilarity of one of the last great sitcoms of the golden age. Enjoy.
