Tony Shalhoub is Monk. I mean, obviously, Shalhoub plays Adrian Monk. But Shalhoub is the core of this show. His portrayal of the OCD detective is so funny, quirky and dead-on that he sells it completely. Given that this is the sixth season (with the seventh currently on-air and an eighth already approved for production); this really isn’t news to anyone. It’s just a blast to watch him do what he does on this show.

Of course, he’s got a terrific supporting cast in Ted Levine, Jason Gray-Stanford and Traylor Howard. They’ve all got great chemistry and add much-needed depth to a show that would probably go south without it. During season six, the cast is also joined by a veritable cavalcade of guest stars, including Sarah Silverman, Diedrich Bader, Howie Mandel, Scott Glenn, Alfred Molina and the Dogfather himself, Snoop Dogg.

This set includes all 16 season six episodes, spread across four DVDs. The special features are pretty much limited to various episode commentaries, which isn’t a bad thing if you’re a Monk obsessive.

Beyond that, you’re left with a strong season of a great show. Monk is up to his usual OCD/crime-solving activities. This is highly recommended if you like mystery/crime shows, comedies or dramas or just all-around good TV. You’ll dig it for sure.
