Restless Streets is a progressive hardcore act out of Albany, New York (the press release facts) that have blown my mind with their four track EP release In, and Of Myself on InVogue Records (that last part’s all me).
Here’s me flogging a dead horse again, but over the years I’ve covered many hardcore acts, and to be honest, after awhile, and with the amount of bands taking on the genre, it all starts to sound like an angry person shoving musical instruments down the stairs while screaming stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a fan of this particular genre since I was 15 (I’m 35 now) and there have been some amazing bands out there, but you don’t get to be top dog unless you can find a way to separate yourself from the pack and I believe that Restless Streets have done it, surprisingly with a 4 track EP.
The EP may only be 4 tracks long but there is so much going on in it that it feels a lot longer until it’s over and then you really wish it was. The bands vocal style of clean and scream isn’t really anything new, it’s about on queue with say Ice Nine Kills on their “The Burning” album, but the style is coherent enough to reveal the lyrical aspect of their assault. What drew me in was their mix of sound. I like the electronic stuff which kind of reminded me of No Hollywood Ending on their “Everybody’s Talking” album mixed with say Linkin Park. It’s kind of hard to explain but it reminds me of what Slipknot did with turntables in metal. It’s just a tight sound. There’s just so much sound in this small 14+ minute offering that’s made me a fan that I can’t wait for the band to release a full album. Until then I highly suggest checking them out.
