The band known as The Story so Far hail from Walnut Creek, California and formed in 2007. “Under Dirt and Soil” is their 5th studio album release, after releasing 2 EPs and 2 albums. They are currently on tour all over the United States and England with fellow rockers from Transit, The Wonder Years, and Polar Bear Club. They are a talented rock band with lots of charisma and they can get any venue moving.

The instrumentals and solos on the whole album were very impressive and full of so much fast paced energy. These were their strong points that they used very well throughout all of the songs. Most of the songs were catchy and memorable because of the instrumentals. My favorite songs on the whole album were “Mt.Diablo” and “High Regard.” These guys definitely know how to play their instruments very well and they definitely know how to rock out.

My major gripes with this album were the vocals and the lack of variety. The vocals did not have a lot of range, except for really high pitches. On most of the songs, it was fairly difficult to understand what was being said because there was so much screaming. Also, The Story so Far has a great sound, but the songs started to all sound the same by the end of the CD. More song variety and vocal variety would have really helped this CD a lot more. For those reasons, I am giving “Under Dirt and Soil” a “C-.”
