I just got finished listening to the band This Is She and their album titled “Nobody is OK” and I’ve got some mixed feelings about. This Is She is a electronic rock/pop/semi techno group with music that has what it takes to be a fun dance tune in dance clubs. While the groups Facebook page says they are an electronic rock group, their music is anything but that. Maybe as a whole they could be considered an electronic rock group but that’s only if you listen to just part of one song. Once you hear the whole album, which is only 5 songs, then you would hear that This Is She has included some catchy tunes that would fit very well with rock, vocals that sound better than most pop songs, while having the electronic beats that make for a good dance song.
Because this band has such a mixture of sounds in their songs I actually found myself enjoying what I was hearing. Most of the time I would only want to hear electronic rock music at a dance club because of how it generates the energy needed to get on the dance floor and dance. Being at home while listening to “Nobody is OK” might not have been as fun if I were at a dance club but I got to admit I did enjoy listening to the music. There’s a lot of energy being put out with the beats and tempos of the songs that make them fun. Then there’s the mixture of sounds being put into the music that gives each song a different tempo while also keeping the high levels of energy in the songs. While I was listening to the vocals of Alana Grace I was impressed with how strong of a voice she has while holding some of the notes that she does. Her voice gives the songs their power while the instruments give the songs their energy.
The only downside that I had with “Nobody is OK” is that there are only 5 songs on the ablum. I would have liked to had more but I guess it’s true what they say about leaving them wanting more or on a good note because that’s what “Nobody is OK” does by the time I was finished with it. With it being electronic music the songs have some editing done on them with a mixer to help give the songs that electronic sound. This Is She has the sound of being edited with a mixer but they have a even level of it that has given some distortion in the songs that actually sounds good. The little downside that I had with this though was I would have liked there to been a little less use of the distortion, not too much but just a little less, enough so I could have heard more of Alana Grace’s vocals and some of the layered sounds of the instruments being performed with their natural talent. With there only being 3 members in the group, This Is She has created a fun, high energy, well paced, and well sung album with “Nobody is OK” and I expect this band will become a little more well known in the dance scene.
