Relationships and families are at the center of You, Me & Them, the first original sitcom for UKTV Gold in over six years. And a charming little sitcom it is.

Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) plays Ed, a somewhat wealthy man in love with a woman twenty years his junior. Eve Myles (Torchwood) plays Lauren, the free spirit younger woman. The pilot episode jumps right in with Ed about to meet Lauren's parents, who are only slightly older than him, and Lauren's sister & her family. Meanwhile, we also get introduced to Lydia, Ed's ex-wife who bought the house next door in hopes that one day she can win him back even though Ed shows no interest in that, and Alan, Ed's brother who is a bit down on his luck and living with Ed and Lauren until he can get back on his feet. Oh, and Ed's grandson. Yeah, he's got kids and grandkids.

The show is a typical story of "us against the maelstrom" as Ed and Lauren stand together against the disapproval of their families, their prying and meddling, and the drama they create for themselves as Lauren officially moves in with Ed.

With just 6 episodes, there isn't much time to get to know every character, but the parts are written and acted so well that it is all the time you really need. You, Me & Them manages some great humor and even heartfelt moments between its characters and has left me hoping they get a second series.

I don't think You, Me & Them airs anywhere one might watch it legally for broadcast, but luckily UK shows are pretty quick about getting on DVD. Though the price for just 6 episodes may be a tad steep. Worth watching if you can though.
