This debut album “In The Name of Progression” by A Coastline Ending sounds way too similar to the current mainstream pop rock/emo bands, therefore, I don’t see how they can stand out among the already-on-radio bands...

RATING: 2.15 (out of 4.00)

From the opening track “Made by Machine”, the very first thing I noticed is a strong presence of the synthesizer. However, I changed my mind soon after listening to more songs. The voice of the lead vocalist often overshadows everything, and it becomes more and more obvious track after track. The sixth track “So Many Faces”, which has quite unique and interesting tunes, is a good proof that his high-pitched voice ruins the song. He sings like performing a one man show, not complimenting any other instrument. It could be one of the more creative tracks, but the singer made it the most annoying track of the whole album.

When the lead vocalist does not sing, you will notice that the album, most notably the fifth track “Face the Music”, has a catchy chorus, good drum beats and impressive guitar riffs. What this album lacks is solo performances. It is very unfortunate because the band has solid instrument players.

The first half of the album is much better, making listeners feel the band’s young energy. However, it gets boring then. There is no signature song, and many songs sound like any other current pop rock band’s music. If you are interested in this band, but not familiar with them, I recommend you to check out their Myspace page to see whether you like their music or not.
