The book Beginner's Greek by James Collins was very surprising. After reading the prologue I was sure that the book was going to be a basic run of the mill love story...

But as I read I began to see that not only was this a love story but it was one that was superbly written. The author was able to pull me into the world of Peter Russell by developing each character in his life to the point that I understood and care about each of them.

This book is about a man named Peter Russell. Peter's a kind and honest man who meets a woman named Holly on a plane ride and falls in love with her on that 5 hour flight. Peter gets her number but loses it. Years later he sees Holly again but is introduced to her by his best friend Jonathan as his girlfriend. Peter watches as Jonathan and Holly date and then get married. A broken hearted Peter moves on with his life and decides to marry another, and this is where the story begins.

The author takes you to a point in Peter's life where things are difficult for him and he is having a tough time. He is losing Holly, coming to terms with his choice to marry another, and trying to deal with a very unpleasant work situation. The author does a great job at introducing the characters in Peters life, he takes the time to give you background on the characters, such as their childhood and past struggles. It was very easy to feel like you knew these people.

This book is predictable at times and really focuses on true love and destiny quite a bit. It wasn't one of those books that you can't put down or the ones you stay up all night reading but it was good and easy to read. I would recommend this book to those who are romantic and buy into the soul mate idea. This book has very minimal sexual passages but it still may not be good for the teenage readers.
