Artist: Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan Album: In Session Live Members: Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughan Genre: Blues Label: Stax Tracks: 11 Release Date: August 17, 1999 Discs: 1 Rating: () Grade: A When I listen to music I want to be put in a better mood, regardless of if the music I'm listening to is punk, rap, country, pop, or rock and roll. Out of all the styles of music out, blues is the only one that tells you right off it's not about happiness and good times. Don't let the name of it fool you though; the blues can be enjoyable to listen to. Add in that the people that are playing it is Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King and what you have is a CD that is one hour of really good music. Here's one thing that sets apart the blues from most other music, the lead members can just start talking to each other or to the crowd and it will fit in with the song like it belongs. There are times on this CD that Albert King just starts to talk to Stevie Ray Vaughan about things like their first meeting during the song but it didn't bother me any. In fact I quite enjoyed getting to hear them have the small chats during the songs. Aside from those few times of talking the rest of the time the songs are what defines a good blues song. Each song has the great guitar melodies that make the listener want to close their eyes and start giving an air guitar performance of their own. While at the same time the songs inspire you to tap your foot while having the feeling that you are in some low lighted club full of smoke and well dressed people as the band sits on the stage creating a world like no other. These two guys really know how to play the blues and it comes across very well on this CD. This is a CD that's so good it don't matter if it's 10 years old or 100, the songs will still be good and fun to listen to. After listening to this CD for a few days and 2 times in a row just now I'm finding that I like it more and more. These 2 guys play the guitar so good that it can inspire someone to pick up a guitar themselves so they can learn to play. I was amazed with the songs on this CD, so much so that I can't think of anything bad to say about the CD other than there's not enough songs on it. Even with it being an hour long with a total of 11 songs I was left wanting more, which is why I have listened to it 2 times in a row. With nothing bad to say about this CD I will say the good, the songs. Yep, it's that simple, every song is played good, the vocals are good, the lyrics make you feel like it's your life they are talking about but then you hear the instrumentals played and you forget that you are supposed to be blue. What's even better is that some of the songs are over 8 minutes long and one is even 15 minutes long. With such a long song it will be good for a lot of situations like being stuck in traffic or talking to some friends, or just sitting back like I have been doing nothing but listen to music. If you are just getting into the blues this would be the perfect CD to pick up, and if you already are into it, then you probably already have this CD and if you don't it would be just as good for the long time blues listener as it is for the beginner.
