Artist: Allison Iraheta Album: Just Like You Label: Jive Tracks: 13 Type: LP Release Date: December 1, 2009 Rating: () Grade: C+ A letter to Allison Ireheta and her writers: Dear Allison, I like you. I really do. You were great on Idol season 8, but let's face it, no one can out-girl Adam Lambert. No one. So, onto your debut CD, "Just Like You". Overall, I still like you and your voice. You have that nice smoky-raspy mix which most people have to cultivate after smoking 2 packs a day for years. You're 17, spunky, and full of promise. Fire the bozos that write this garbage get some real writers. I have to give it you though, you know how to make the best of a bad situation. You take "sing it like you mean it" to heart, that's for sure. This is your first record, and it was a great effort, but I think you can do better. I give you a big B+. Can I still sign your yearbook? P.S. I like "Pieces" quite a lot. Dear various writers of "Just Like You," You suck. Really. Allison is 17 for crying out loud. Your material is all over the place. You should be ashamed of yourselves making her sing dorky references like "hit me up again," "hit erase," and "drama go away." Then you have her singing "Scars" which, I guess, is supposed to be her love letter to an ex-boyfriend, but she comes across sounding more like wife of 20 years facing divorce than a kid in high school. And then there's Gary Glitter's "Robot Love." Really, Gary Glitter? We know this guy's story. Who hired him anyway, and when is he going to give up using that insipid "Rock and Roll (Part Two)" riff? (Whovians know the one. The Timelords did it better...) And Kara Dioguardi. No. That one is too easy and she does enough to herself every week on Idol, so I'll leave her out of this. Allison seems like such a nice kid, but you pushed her voice to the point of squeaky and harsh on most choruses. Nice effort, but you guys kind of spoiled the whole deal with your own grown-up issues. And because of that, I give you guys a big fat C-. Back off and let her sing about being a kid for now. Signed, Jennifer, kind of a fan of Allison's P.S. I like "Pieces" quite a lot. Oh, and for those keeping score: A B+ added to a C- = C+.
