Bella Morte, Italian for Beautiful Death, is a Goth band which began in 1996 and has seen its share of lineup changes but remains a powerhouse in their genre providing operatic vocals accompanied by techno industrial feeds and controlled metal orchestrations.
There comes a time in your life when you’ve heard just about everything and though Bella Morte isn’t 100% original their delivery is so professional and so pure sounding that comparisons become somewhat of a moot point. Singer Andy Deane’s voice is so controlled and operatic it’s an almost beautiful sound matched with the ambient music provided by the rest of the band. If anything I would compare it to a really fantastic scene in a film that’s too painful to watch but so beautifully delivered that you can’t look away. The band stays a steady course never getting carried away or bowing to the genre’s sometimes overwhelmingly present culture. I also liked that the album mixes it up, especially towards the back end where the sullen ballads sort of fade out to the more aggressive tracks that are more edgy but never lose their focus. Their sound is loyal but accessible. Fans of Disturbed, Faith No more, and Savior Machine will love Bella Morte and if you’ve never heard of any of those bands before (not likely) your sure to find Bella Morte fantastic anyway. An absolute must own. Enjoy.
