Title: Accident Genre: Foreign Films, Suspense Starring: Louis Koo, Richie Jen, Michelle Ye Director: Soi Cheang Studio: Shout! Factory Runtime: 87 minutes Release Date: June 12, 2012 Format: BLU-RAY Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: B- When is an accident not an accident? When it's murder. Or, more acurately, assassination. This is what the plot of Accident involves. Ho Kwok-fai, aka The Brain, runs a small crew that carries out profession hits. The team goes to great lengths to engineer "accidents" to kill their targets so that no one knows that they are perfect assassinations. However, he is plauged with guilt and memories of his recently lost wife, and struggles to keep his team on track and on task. Then, just after pulling off another of their perfect accidents, one of his team is killed in an accident, hit by a bus. After that, Ho Kwok-fai becomes convinced that this accident was choreographed, that someone, perhaps a relative or associate of a previous target, is out to get him. Walking a thin line between reality and delusion, The Brain has to stay one step ahead of this conspiracy. Accident is a Chinese film from 2009 that is just now getting a Blu-ray release in the US. It's well made, well plotted, and worth seeing, even if it is subtitled. It had a few interesting twists and turns that fans of thrillers should enjoy. For me, however, the most interesting elements of the movie were the accidents themselves. I enjoyed watching them being planned and unfolding, catching their victims in their jaws. |
