After Dusk They Come is probably one of the worst named movies I have seen in quite some time. And unfortunately, the bad doesn't stop at the name.

They say:

A chartered luxury yacht full of vacationers sets out to sea for a gorgeous tropical island adventure. The captain realizes that the ship is miles off course and heads to the closest landfall, a strange, uncharted island. After a horrific boat crash, the shipwrecked vacationers find themselves on a beach bordered by an imposing, dense jungle. It becomes evident that they are not the first to arrive at their new island prison. Monstrous, cannibalistic beasts stalk the group from the shadows, picking them off one by one...

So basically, these people wreck on an island and then monsters kill them. It is a pretty standard horror film. Nothing here is shocking or surprising. Everybody dies exactly when you expect them to and the plot twists in all the ways it should. The real failure here is that the majority of the people are killed in the middle of the day. It's almost as if the movie was named by the marketing team, who hadn't actually seen the movie, or perhaps they simply don't know what "Dusk" is and in turn what "After Dusk" means.

If you don't know, dusk is the darkest part of twilight right before night. Thus, "after dusk" would mean "night".

Later, after most of the people are dead and night finally falls, we learn that the creatures are completely night blind and hunt by sound and smell at night. It seems odd that people should fear a creature after dark when it is a much better hunter during the day.

Maybe I have it wrong... maybe the title of the film is from the monsters' point of view. After dusk, when the monsters are more vulnerable, the humans come to kill them! After Dusk They Come! Now, THAT would have been an interesting twist.

To add insult to injury, a quick trip over to Wikipedia shows us that the film was originally called "The Forgotten Ones", which is a much better title, and then changed to "The Tribe", which is also a much better title, before settling on the terrible After Dusk They Come. And then to make matters worse, Wikipedia (which totally never has anything but the truth it in, for serious) says that immediately after wrapping filming for this film (and thus before post production and release) the producers realized that the movie they had filmed did not live up to their vision, so they got a new writer, director and cast, and remade the film. I'm pretty sure that's the first time a remake was make prior to the original getting a release. The remake is called The Lost Tribe.

Anyway, ultimately the movie isn't very good, so I guess I can't blame them for doing the instant remake. It's largely boring, but the makeup on the monsters is pretty good. I don't hate myself for watching it, but I could have easily lived without it.

The DVD of After Dusk They Come includes some extras, but none of them are worth watching.
