Title: Groom Lake Genre: Sci-Fi Starring: William Shatner, Dick Van Patten, Amy Acker, Tom Towles, Dan Gauthier Studio: Koch Vision Runtime: 92 minutes Release Date: March 10, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: () Grade: C Bonus Feature Interview with William Shatner Kate doesn’t have long to live so she sets off on a trip with her boyfriend to enjoy her last days. Where does she want to go? Towards Area 51 in search for proof of life on other planets. Meanwhile at the military base Commander Gossner has been conducting experiments for many years and is hiding it from the public. When he is told that it is going to be shut down Gossner decides he needs to finish his work before he goes. This movie was written by, produced by, directed by and starring William Shatner. Right there should give you an idea of what you are getting into. The movie is low budget, the acting is weak, the effects are shoddy, and the story ….well read the synopsis. If you are looking for a blockbuster sci-fi movie walk away. But if you enjoy really bad B movies and are a huge fan of Shatner this one could possibly be just right for you. In fact I’m grading this as a B movie; though I must say even as that it is not outstanding. There were some odd choices made such as Kate being groped/molestated/who really knows what by some locals (the camera cuts away so all you get is some quickly mumbled story later by Kate) and the retail price of $19.98 seems way too high for this kind of thing. Alright for a collector of bad movie if you find it on sale and those that want a good/decent sci-fi movie will hate it. |
