Title: Kill List Genre: Horror Starring: Neil Maskell, Michael Smiley, MyAnna Buring Director: Ben Wheatley Studio: MPI Home Video Runtime: 95 minutes Release Date: August 14, 2012 Format: BLU-RAY Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: D+ Perhaps you will enjoy this tale of a hitman returning to work for three simple kills that spins out of control, but I didn't enjoy Kill List much at all. Jay is a hitman and his last job went sideways, and he was injured both physically and mentally. For eight months he's been sitting on his hands, but his family is running out of money. Jay gets pressured by his partner Gal to take on a lucrative three-part assignment. Kill a priest, a librarian and a member of Parliament. While Gal is a careful professional, Jay is a violent hothead, and each job goes worst than the last. For me, this movie takes far too long to get going. We spend too much time with Jay and his family and their money problems. And once the jobs start, they immediatelly ratchet up to ultra-violent. And then there is an unexpected twist. Not unexpected because you have been mislead, but unexpected in that it comes entirely out of left field and makes no sense whatsoever - think Wickerman. I really wanted to like this movie, but is suffers from pacing problems and then crashes into a complete mess. It is fairly well made, however, and from a technical standpoint perhaps has some merrit. The Blu-ray for Kill List contains a bunch of interviews, a couple of featurettes, and two full length commentary tracks, but I'll be honest and say that I found the movie so uninspiring that I simply didn't care enough to watch any of the extras. |
