Title: Mister Foe Genre: Drama, Foreign Films Starring: Jamie Bell, Sophia Myles, Claire Forlani Director: David Mackenzie Studio: Magnolia Runtime: 96 Minutes Release Date: November 11, 2008 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: () Grade: A- Voyeurism and sex usually go hand in hand together, as is the case with Hallam Foe, a teenager who tends to avoid interaction and watch people from a distance. Attempting to cope with the death of his mother, Hallam resorts to spying on people, picking locks, and getting into mischief. When his new step mother starts to take control over his father, Hallam leaves the house and finds a job as a porter. There he falls in love with the head of human resources, Kate, who looks strikingly familiar to his deceased mother. A film revolving around the theme of voyeurism is going to be rather intense and Mister Foe is no exception. Jamie Bell does a wonderful job at portraying this dark and twisted character. At times, he can appear normal but then he will go and put on his mother's clothes and makeup, showing how deeply disturbed he has become as a result of his mother's passing. Sophia Myles as Kate was a bit overshadowed. You get to know her character some though Hallam's frequent spy trips but there isn't much else to take in. Mister Foe is a dark look into the life of a teen plagued by the death of his mother. At times it can be awkward but at its heart, the film is excellent. Not many bonus features aside from a behind the scenes featurette and deleted scenes. I would easily recommend this to any film enthusiast. |
